Best Threading Tool

I did tons of threading with shop-ground HSS tools. It was R700 receiver truing that got me started with inserts. Seemd the only way to properly pickup a thread and to cut it oversized without a lot of extra work was to use a full profile internal insert. The Full profile inserts cut the crest for you as well as the v-profile. When truing a receiver, this is key to obtaining a good internal cut that is going to match a barrel cut to ISO specifications. No guessing on the crest flats to pitch-diameter relationship or the helix angle. Just concentrate on picking up the thread.

I have had great luck using Arthur Warner 1/2" threading kit. Its HSS, never tried carbide, so I have no comment there, but I run 79 rpm, and HSS works at that speed very well.

I tried the Warner, but I couldn't stand running slow, so I went to carbide. Warner makes a great tool though. Those are great threads btw.

I also use high speed 5 to 8% cobalt and Hillbillysniper did it right , thats how i do mine also ! I grind my tool bits for most of my turning , touch them up with a stone and you will b good for a long time ,just use high sulfur cutting fluid !

I have had this Dorian in left hand version for 5yrs or more and really like it! Can't believe in that it takes 1-2 months to ship.lol They must be rare???
Right handed, the one shown in the link is left handed....FWIW.

BTW, stand up thread inserts are the most durable. The lay down style and especially the lay down ID inserts are extremely fragile.

The pic is left handed, the description is for a right handed.

I grind my own as well. I definitely prefer HS tools for trueing action threads. I like to "feel the tool in" when I pick up the thread. This can get expensive with carbide tooling unless one is very careful

Whatever, the insert is on opposite side as the one pictured and description says "right hand", so on mine insert is on the left hand side if you are standing behind it. Sorry that my 2 strokes make my description politically incorrect for some!!!! TRA, maybe you will have a couple and you or your melon might not be perfect like it is now!!!

You just described a right hand tool. Right hand sweeps left and left hand sweeps right. o_O

I'm sorry I did not catch the stroke reference at first. I also have had 2. Both same day. Got these cute little cashew shaped gizzys in the photos of my head too. I'm far from perfect, but there some things I have knowledge of. Sorry if that offends some. :)
