Best targets for long range

muleman69

We were talking last night about trying to come up with a target for longer ranges. What do most of you folks use for color of paper ? Would some kind of backer help to see holes better? Are cameras the way to go theses days?

I doubt that any kind of backer is going to make bullet hole visible at long range. I have a Target Vision camera I use for 600 yards which works very well. I bought a Shot Marker about a year ago that I use now. More involved than the Target Vision but I like it.
If interested, I will be selling the Target Vision soon.

white paper, light blue ink for rings.( ibs 600/1000 targets)
with a $750 100mm spotting scope I could see 30 cal, and sometimes 6mm at 1000 yards.
nothing works in mirage
fresh flat backer that allows clean holes works best.
coroplast/plastic cardboard last a long time but does not help define holes in paper

One click up puts the rounds into the white paper, easily seen with a decent scope at 550 barring mirage of course.

Not familiar with them ,but I just might be interested. Keep in touch

If you don't have a target cam, and you want to definitely see your bullet holes at 500+ yards, you can get a splatter target. The high contrast works.

Downside -- it will be hard to discern true group size through the scope until you measure the physical target, going center to center of the shot holes. But you will be able to see the group location even at extreme range.

TARGET CAMERA:
I agree that the best solution is a Target Camera, and we like the LongShot (aka TargetVision) systems. LINK: https://longshotcameras.com/?rfsn=3430220.515221

paper of splatter type targets makes getting a real group size pretty tuff.

Boss: As I explained, measure Center to Center of the Bullet holes, as the outside edges can be distorted. C2C will work reasonably well for training.
