best scope

If you can find a used Bushnell 6-24x50 30mm tube w/side focus mildot ,I think that would be a great scope for your rig. I have two of them and glass is excellent and tracking is spot on.

I have a 6.5 to 20 powder scope on my 6.5 x 47 lapua. It is a Nikon Monarch "Gold" with their dual "X" crosshair. I am not sure whether they actually make that model anymore or not>>BUT Nikon has always been a GREAT hunting scope. It is unreal clear, never breaks and tracks perfectly... I wish Nikon would get into the F-Open arena with a scope or 2. Their glass is second to none!! I hope this helps..

If you can live with 18X max, I vote for the Leupold 6-18X40 VX2. Excellent tracking, upgraded glass, decent eye relief; plus, one can customize it later. Not side-focus, but lighter weight and less complexity.
Second choice - and less money if bought for closeout price at Natchez - would hands-down be a 6-20X Weaver Grand Slam, to be discontinued (sadly) in that mag range.

I have two of the boush and lomb. 6-24 both are excellent glass and track perfect but they only have around 40 moa adjustment. Other than that they are great scopes for around $300. I bought one new in the early 90s and one 5 months ago both for around $300.

Have you looked at the Redfield 6x18's ?
Father-in-law got one and we all loved it. He has got several more since and I think its one of the best buys out there. It has the hashes and they have worked out on about all the guns we've tried'em on. Track good and real clear glass.
Not something I'd want for target shooting but it works good for hunting.

Have a Bushnell elite 6500 tactical on gun I have. Really like it a lot. Takes a lot of abuse also. That's a plus. I think that's a must. Had trouble with my big sky taking any abuse. Could send it in but I still wouldn't have trust in it. Looked at a few Burris scopes today. Not wanting to spend an arm and a leg but still get something descent. I'm not sure I need a 20 power now that I think about it. I need to go out and glass big game farther out than what I have to get an idea.

If you are talking a Varmint scope then SIDE focus is a MUST as it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier to adjust the parallax and a 1/2 minute of parallax at 500 yds is a MISS. Big game not so much of a issue

I have used the AO on the front of the scope and even on the rear IMHO the side is the only way to go if coupled with the fast Focus eyepiece you have it all

I've recently seen some close out Nikon Monarch 5-20x scopes on sale in the $430 price range. Cabelas has the Monarch 3 version currently on sale for $480. I have two of the Monarch 5-20x on varmint rifles and am 100% satisfied. I don't like their BDC reticle so I went with the duplex. The duplex on these scopes are fine enough for varmints yet thick enough to use on a long range big game rifle.

I think you can find other scopes of equal value/quality, but would be hard pressed to find something better for under $500.

Probably shoot steel and couple times a year big game. anyone shoot Burris mtac? I was looking at one today and was very impressed. it was just 14 power though. Figure I can sight in at 300 or so and use hold over pretty far out. Has super nice reticle and goes up 5 mils in one revolution. That'd be enough for 900 or so I think. Be pretty handy. Wish store would let me torture test it and bring it back if it failed. :D. Price they quoted me was much lower than midway.
