Best scope for a 22lr?

Anything that tracks true and has extended focal range. I like the 10-50x sightrons for this reason. I think you can get down to 13yds with these.

Lots of great options out there. Depending on how much you want to shoot at night and how far you want to shoot during the day, you can spend a little or a lot. If I were looking for something to use at night, I'd look for a scope with either a lit reticle or something along the lines off Leupold's FireDot.

For any low light condition the larger the objective lens the more light it collects. I have 2.5 - 10 x 50 Kahles on mine and I mostly use it for shooting metallic silhouettes out to 100 yards. You don't need to spend that kind of money to get a good scope with a 50 mm objective lens. Any of the major brands should be fine.

Unless the animal is already dead, a fixed power scope won't do the job.
...

There are literally hundreds of squirrels, and half as many 'coons along the GA coast that would dispute this claim had they lived, though I used a 4x scope and not a target scope.

Take a look at a Leupy FX-II in 4x. (I also have one from the Custom shop with M1 turrets on the AR I shoot in Service Rifle) I'm about to order a couple of them for my 22lr shooting.

In the event I'm just target shooting I have a NF 8-32BR mounted on a 40X in a PR&T stock, so I've got both extremes covered.

Of course if the scope is low power enough, you can acquire the target quickly. Using a fixed 36x or 45x at a target board at 200 yards is a PITA and worse than that if hunting.

Get a 4x12x40 with a ballistic reticle tuned for 22 rimfire @ 1200 fps. You will have dead on hold for 25-50-75-100 and hold over for 125. With the kidd you can expect hits on a 1" target at 100 yds.
