Best Overall Value in Rem 700 Stock?

Hope it is OK for a still relatively new member to seek advice and education here. I have purchased several guns from members of the forum, and a couple of them are Remington 700s or clones (e.g., Defiance Rebel) barreled actions where another person purchased the nice stock before I purchased the rest of the gun. So now I need to find some stocks.

What advice would you give on buying a stock with the following requirements:
1. Must free float even a Heavy Barrel profile (1.25" at the muzzle) for maximum options in future barrel selection
2. good pillar bedding of course
3. if other features and quality are close (if not quite equal), less expensive is certainly nice
4. of course, I want the stock to help achieve the best possible accuracy, but I am completely open to materials and style, I have found and enjoyed fairly accurate guns with all sorts of different stocks, from metal chassis, to flat 3" wide bench rest, to HS Precision polymer/fiberglass (?), to more traditional wood or laminate
5. one rifle is a single shot, but the other does have bottom metal and will need to allow for a magazine.

I have learned a lot from just lurking in the shadows in this forum for years as a non-member, but I hoping some of you that have been down this stock road a few times may share some of your wisdom with me (and the many others who may later read your replies).

Thank you,
Clay

Life is too short to shoot sh***y stocks. I tried to find value, and finally ordered an AG composites after hating a couple of the stocks I tried. Wish I'd done that right of the bat. Love it. It even smells good.

That being said
I think certain Bell and Carlsons are a good value. The M40 is a very decent stock.
Boyds laminates

You might look at HS Precision Stocks they are, reasonably priced and AVAILABLE. I put one ( Got it from, Stocky's ) on my Rem 700 .22-250 and "fitted" the Alum V Block in stock to get, "clearance space" on the action ( was Binding a bit ) and used Ernie the Gunsmiths, Pillar "Rings",.. then, Glass Bedded action and 2 1/2 inches of the "Shank" portion of, the bbl / Free Floated the balance. shoots, SUB 1/2 MOA, most of the Time, depending on, Bullet / Load, used.
Then made, a Kydex, Cheek rest "saddle" as seen on, YouTube.

You can get upgraded walnut and maple for a Boyd’s stock also. Nothing beats a beautiful walnut stock.

H&S is the silent gorilla in the room that sits so still it’s overlooked. I honestly suspect they wish to serve only commercial concerns and be altogether ignored by the chatter, allegiances, and alliances of individual competitors and hobbyists in the way a Schmidt & Bender, Badger Ordinance or Harris apparently does.

They make the most unnoticeable 700 stock (metal on metal) that you will never damage or flex.

Thanks for all of the comments so far. I agree that I have never been disappointed in any way by an HS Precision stock, so that will certainly stay at the top of my list. I have had mixed luck with Boyd's, but perhaps because they may require more work to get the bedding correct, and I am not very good or experienced with that. Yes, I know it's not that hard, but there is some skill involved with doing almost anything right, and I don't have it with bedding yet because I have not done it enough.

Agree with the "buy once, cry once" approach. I have no experience with the AG Composites, but it sounds like I need to look hard at them.

Thanks again.

+ 2 Bell & Carlson. $200 used. Ergonomics far superior to HS Precision for me.

The $330 KRG are tops in my book too, for the affordable end of the spectrum.

HS Precision stocks appear on here often so wait a bit and over at snipershide as well.

+1 for Bell & Carson. I purchased one of their Target/Competition stocks with the adjustable cheek piece for my Remington 700 SA in .223 Rem. I bedded it with Devcon. I love the adjustable cheek piece because it has c-clips to maintain the setting and it is easily removed for barrel cleaning. I highly recommend bedding the action as this will eliminate lots of problems. I removed the two sling studs on the forend and attached a picatinny rail section. I use a 3" clamp-on bag rider on the picatinny rail. The rifle now shoots in the 2's and 3's with a Krieger 26" heavy varmint 1 in 12 ss barrel.

I came across Stocky's selling unpainted prototype (needed the barrel channel relieved) pre release Accublock sporter configuration composite stocks. I got one for $99, painted it and it looks and fits great. It is, however 1 lb heavier than the "tupperware" stock that I had on my 721. I got it because with the Rem 721 you have to modify it in a few places to fit and I would not want to do that with a higher $$ B&C or HS. I haven't shot it yet but it is very stiff.
Worth a look.

I don't see the sporter style on their site, but they list the vertical grip and M50 ones.

Good plan. I almost jumped too quickly to buy a nice Bell and Carlson on the forum this morning only to realize a few seconds later that it was a long action. I am keeping my eyes out for the next good stock to pop up.

Great looking rig, and it shoots as good as it looks. I do love the look of the B&C.
