"The best plans....."

Ever purchased an item or three, to eventually assemble?

Several years ago, I purchased a certain stock, at an extremely good price. (10 years ago, at least). Put away (on top of metal security cabinet).

Four years ago, I purchased a certain stainless rifle, that will fit in the above stock.

Two weeks ago, I purchased a scope and barrel from two different members on here.

Imagine my sadness, when I forgot that I had purchased a Savage WSM rifle!!! ARGH! The small shank barrel does not work so well on a large shank action. When I retrieved the WSM from the metal enclosure, as soon as I saw the step in front of the barrel nut, ...........sadness. Nothing but sadness.

Thank you for the kind words. Except XTR! THREE????? LOL!

As I look around my garage full of "stuff", I have decided, that I am done buying and storying the "good stuff" for the day that may never get here.

This past year, I have been dragging out the "good stuff" and started assembling/using/selling/trading the items.

The time to use the "good stuff" is NOW!!! I am using my Lapua and Norma brass. I am using that nineteen eleven that shoots so wonderfully....that I need to ENJOY that iron instead of leaving the the metal warehouse. I am building the items from the "good stuff".....no reason for me to not enjoy what I worked for.

This is what I do......I'm famous for having something on
the back burner. Every once in a while I need to buy another
stove to have more back burners !!
It's better to have it and not need it, than it is to need it and not have it. That's what I tell my wife anyway.

That's a brilliant observation. Totally concur.

BTW, the thread title should read "The best laid plans..." That is the usual American English translation of the first portion of the line: "The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men Gang aft agley..." from the Robert Burns poem To a Mouse. Without the word "laid," folks might not get the reference.
