You CAN find a great load with 4064. It does really well but it's a little on the fast side. I'm a giant advocate for IMR 4064 but for the masses either 4350 is a good bet for everyday loads. The 4064 is a little specialized, hits hard and fast but you have to really pay attentionI shot a hot load of IMR 4064 and a fed 210 primer, 75g Sierra made a mess out of a coyote, very, very accurate at 3600 fps.
Just fishing to see if you guys have a preferred powder for the standard 6mm remington. It is a shilen select match barrel on a savage long action, centerfeed. The twist is 1 in 12. Any help is appreciated. Jon
With no specified projectile ?Reduce load 15% to start
Remington 700 BDL 26" barrel 53.5 grain reloader 19, clocked 10 feet from barrel 3,905 average over 10 rounds. Prints 1 1/16" at 300 yards vaporizes any varmint it hits and has removed the base of skull from 2 deer.
Sorry typing while grandchildren are here. I edited my original post. With no specified projectile ?![]()
This post has been going on for awhile and answers some of my questions. I had some success with H380 and Reloader 17 in my 6mm Rem (with Douglas 26", 1 in 12 twist, heavy barrel), but nothing like I used to get 50 years ago when I was shooting Hercules Reloader 21. H414 did not do well for me. Hercules Reloader 21 powder with 75 gr Sierra HP would consistently shoot half inch, one-hole groups, and I just shot up the last of my old handloads and they still performed great. Thus I'm in search of a new powder that will do as good in my rifle. Does anyone know what current powders would be very similar to the old Hercules Reloader 21?
