Best “house” flashlight recommendation

I sit here watching severe weather on radar about to pass through my area. I have different flashlights throughout our house but most are not what I call ideal for storms. Any suggestions?

What Adam in WI said; you need a quality, really bright pocket sized flashlight. Beyond that, I also want a full sized flashlight available too, and only Mag-Light need apply. Why Mag-Light? because a aluminum three or four cell Mag-Light doubles as one heck of a weapon, both as a club and a blunt force poking weapon.

Do you have any "cordless" tools? If so,that co's flashlights are usually pretty durn cheap. They bust your $$ if you didn't already have a charger. We have Hitatchi, who's now partnered with Metabo.... the flashlight(without a battery) is under 15$. I bought one mainly to use in front of a target,it has a click adj head angle..... and now use it in the shop as light for all kinds of,working on stuff(O.LD. need lots of light).

Keep a BUNCH of mini mag lights around, for just about everything else. The new bulbs are better than old.

Thanks, but no cordless

are they brighter than they used to be?

"folding" or "pop up" LED lanterns work great.
We have had power outages up to 9 days. I now have 4 of these and I specifically looked for those with the 3.7v Li-ion rechargables. Then I keep a half dozen or so extra charged batteries. Also have a few flashlights that take the same batteries. That or Surefire polys for walking around. The 123 Lithium batteries stay up many years unused.

And yeah, converting old maglights to LED bulbs is worth it if you are not buying new flashlights.

+1 For Maglight I have the rechargeable option so anytime you grab it it is fully charged it stays mounted in a charging dock when not in use It has a plug for cig lighter on the dock For12 V

I second LED because they "sip" battery power it seems. For storms that could cause outages for days, I use disposable battery lights and keep batteries on hand to replace them. I can't re-charge without power and the light I need doesn't have to be blinding, it needs to be soft and go through a lens that is not focused into a spot. I have an older battery lantern that works great with a stand that you use to shine it up to the ceiling to light the room. Head lamps are good when you go looking for something. And I keep a small AAA light in my pocket always storm or no storm.

One of my Mag-Lights was old style and was converted to LED a few years ago; the other 3 were bought as LED flashlights; Cemetery21 is spot on about doing the conversion. The other thing that I have learned is that the the batteries last super long on LED Mag-Lights; one of mine gets used at least once a night walking the dog, twice a night in the winter, and regular Mallory Coppertops last for many months - none of mine are rechargeable.

Streamlight litebox may be ideal for what you want. We’ve used them for years in local fire Dept. I have two at home one old one and one led newer one and they can sit in a charger until needed - ac or dc if you wanted one in vehicle. On ac if power is lost light comes on. Newer led bulbs Last hours and you can easily see 100 yards at night. Two versions of bulbs i think are available flood and beam. I have never replaced batteries or bulbs in either. Only downside is price tad over a Ben for each. Durable case on them too

I am going a different way on this. I suggest 2 flashlights.
My choice
Fenix PD36r rechargeable it has 1600lums turbo which can see out to 290 yrds and has an eco mode of 30lums with a run time of 115hrs.
weights 6oz with battery
Has a pocket clip
uses 21700 batteries (buy a spare)

2nd light would be any small common AA battery light. everyone has AA batteries.

Found a reasonable 5min video of the light

Here is a review of the PD36r for you flashoholics
