Best custom 700 action?

Not to start a pissing match here, but if that wasn't true, than the short range BR and Fclass crowd, which are arguably the 2 most accuracy minded shooting disciplines, would be using floating style bolt heads, and I don't think a majority of them do. Is that a safe bet to say?
There are quite a few Kaugers in F_Class FTR, I friend that wins with one. Not used in F Open because Kauger doesnt yet make a heavy enough bolt.

Do all Kauger actions have the same ignition?
Not exactly sure.. Alex Wheeler worked with Kauger on the fire control of one model and wrote that after everything was tested etc etc.. Kauger was intending to incorporate the tweaks into all of the actions. If you call Kauger they will tell you…

Also I find it odd that hardly anyone here uses or recommends the Kelbly Prometheus. Is there a good reason for that? I dont know. I think a lot of Impacts success was early on in PRS, some of the first to offer prefits, their marketing, and the bandwagon culture we shooters tend to gravitate towards to what the Pros use.

I don't know the reason for most people, but I think the "What the Pros Use" has a ton of influence and then people jump on the bandwagon. I think in the beginning of PRS, Impact showed up and sponsored more shooters and that's how they got a head start. Then you also have more dedicated forums for PRS and it snowballs from there.

I think a lot of PRS shooters think of Kelbly as the Panda and BR. Then they think about how tight the actions are and how controlled the environment can be compared to PRS stages.

Even great PRS actions fall from the throne. Didn't Defiance used to be at the top? A couple of problems with a tight Defiance and it gets bashed. You always hear about people with problems versus people without problems. It's like that in any industry/market.

I'm not saying the Impact is a bad action. It's a great action and will actually run pretty flawlessly. I've never bound up my Impact and that's an important feature and an important selling point. So, if you absolutely need your action to run even with mud and sand and dirt in the mix, then maybe it's the top choice.

My Defiance is absolutely the smoothest action I own. But it is more susceptible to binding if it gets debris in it. So if you're shooting in the desert or mud, then maybe it's not the best.

They all have pluses and minuses. I picked up a Lone Peak because of all the great comments and people saying it's better than the Impact. I haven't barreled it yet, but the action itself seems great. I can't say I see anything right off the bat that makes it better or worse yet.

Everyone has their opinion... Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge

Make a decision and go forward, it's the only way to know if it's right for you or not.

Prometheus is an outstanding choice.

I will however politely correct the thought that Zermatt’s “floating” bolt head is an accuracy concern. I’ve shot hundreds upon hundred of .25 moa groups with the Zermatt actions. If anything, it helps with alignment. I think that’s why savages generally shoot well despite having sewer pipe barrels.

But, Prometheus is an excellent choice, and they will treat you right if you ever need anything.

Kauger gets a lot of love on this forum. I don't see much about them on other forums that I belong too.

I'll probably try one eventually, but I also look at the price compared to some others and wonder about the non integral rail and lug.

My 2nd Kauger VPR action arrives tomorrow in 60 days ...
They are that good ,,,,and the bolt heads are a whopping
60 dollars to buy from them ...you can have an outstanding
versatile rifle , ready to swap calibers on the fly .

The reason so many people rant and rave about Bergara rifles
are the precision and quality for a factory rifle....

Guess who makes their actions for them behind the scenes ??

Kauger !! out of Ohio.
super folks and a superb company .
It took 60 days from order to your FFL? Dang. The 3 I had took like 1 week max. Hope the one I just ordered on black Friday doesn't take that long.

I must have typed away to to hastily. In F Class FTR with an 18LBS limit Kauger actions are used and I have a friend who uses one and another who is ordering a Kauger soon. In F Class Open a heavier action is desired than Kauger currently makes due to the 22LBS Limit.

I am buying 2 soon for long range hunting rifle builds. The reason is my gunsmith really likes Kauger and has been building very accurate rifles with Kauger.. he raves about the Kauger folks. He builds these rifles and shoots them on his 1000 yard range developing loads for clients…. Building two rifles… each rifle will be 6BRA and 300WSM. 2 barrels.. interchangeable bolt heads for each gun me and my son.

There are many places besides the action to add weight. Using the same action as FTR and using a heavier contour barrel or weight in the stock will do it. The action weight is a very odd place to worry about weight.

Well dang.. the world greatest F Class shooters worry about action weight… 32” 1”250 barrels are used.. have you ever looks at equipment lists for F Class?? A 32” in 1”.250, a Borden BRMXD, Rad Recoil system, Nighforce Competition 15-55…. Gets most to about 21LBS more or less depending on the stock which provide room for any rain gear that could be included in the weight….

Shucks! Funny how PRS guys are getting to 27+ pounds with 26” 1.250” barrels. Hmmm maybe the worlds greatest F Class shooters need to learn how to add weight to a rifle instead of worrying about action weight. lol

Didnt they raise prices substantially just a couple years back after being aquired by some social media hunter or something ?

Not sure about price increasse, but yes, Bob and Chris Beck (The Extreme Group) who also host the "Extreme Outer limits show" on the sportsmans channel bought them out. Bob use to live like 100 miles from me in NE Oregon. There were a few issues and questions with Defiance regarding the new ownership at first, but I hear they have worked things out that needed addressed. Most of the time when a company is taken over, it goes downhill because there's no passion, it's now an investment and ROI is more important. They also bought out McMillan and we all know what happened there, kinda went downhill. I have first hand experience with that one 2 years ago...All I'll say about that
