Pacific Tool and Gauge Custom shop remington 700

Bought my first Rem 700 in 1972 in 7mm magnum. Had the barrel removed and bought a Hart stainless blank and had it chambered in 7mm/300Wby by Pete at Cleveland custom gun. Made a stock out of a 4 inch thick walnut in woodshop, benchrest style. I had been reading about the Drummond brothers out of PA that were shooting groundhogs past 1000yds. I lived in Ohio and wanted to do the same thing, thats when I decided machining was going to be my field of expertise. Have been into it since.
Thanks for the son compliment. Butch, You are well respected around here. Sorry to get off topic.

Your good.

The two barreled actions that I received definitely have hammer forged barrels. One is stainless, the other CM. Both actions have RR serial number prefixes.
What was done at a point in history, is that the Ilion Custom Shop was tasked with QC comebacks, and accuracy issues. They would swap the barreled action for a new one, and then HS it to the original bolt. Others have described how they were fitted. This was fast, and hopefully resolved the QC issue. It is possible that what is being sold as Custom Shop barreled actions is a mix of all the inventory that they had. As I said, mine are standard hammer forged Remington 700’s with late regular production, CNC machined actions. It seems these barreled actions are ya get what ya get, and they ain’t all the same or of the same quality.

I spoke with Ward, who had been in charge of Remington's Custom shop ( for 30yrs. ) before and now, it is called Parkwest Arms 605-702-0060 He said the barrels on the actions PTG has are Shilen barrels, even though they are roll stamped with Remingtons info and caliber. They are short chambered because they were threaded and short chambered anywhere ( from -.008 to -.050 ) on a CNC machine for faster production. The actions are all blueprinted either by them, or LRI helped them when they were busy. They are not in posession of the barreled actions that PTG is selling, the actions got shipped to Remington when the custom shop closed because the ATF said you couldn't leave serialized parts there.
Ward said they are working on a pricing schedule in case you would like them to finish chambering it. ( about $125.00 he was thinking out loud )
He said when they came back to the custom shop after it had been closed, they cleaned and painted and did any repairs the equipment needed before starting custom production again. They are also Dakota Arms he said. They will be able to produce any caliber, using any barrel manufacturer you choose, and any stock to build you the custom rifle you want.
Ward is a very nice gentleman, we spoke for about a 1/2 hour.
If you have any question, he said feel free to call them.
SO, I knew the barrels weren't factory and the actions machining was meticulous for a Remington.
SO I think they were a good deal, especially with the price increase you see on new Remington actions.

Does anyone know if Parkwest Arms is still doing PTG Barreled Actions.

Not trying to be a S A. but why don’t you call that number and ask them. That would seem the best way to me, to actually hear it from the horses mouth so to speak.
