Best Bargain ever

Last day of an estate sale a couple of years ago. Table full of reloading dies. A couple of sets I had use for. Lady told me if I took them ALL I could have them for $5 a set.
Had no idea what all was there got home and sorted them out. A set of Corbin dies and some extras to make 224 from .22RF jackets. Look to have never been used.
And still haven't been used...

I think my father had the ultimate story. I’m very proud of him, so I’ll put his story here. He collected Parker shotguns. He owned an Outdoor shop on Cape Cod. The Goose Hummock in Orleans. He got a call one day from his gun guy at the store, Bruce McFarlane. “Bill, get up here!” He left at 4am the next morning for the 8 hour drive. A guy was selling a Parker shotgun. With my father on site, the guy brought the gun back in. My father and his gun guy Bruce looked it over. The engraving said it was an Invincible. Only three ever made. Two were accounted for, but the third had been “lost” over the years. They were the top gun Parker ever produced and were Special Order guns. Worried that it might be a fake, they offered the guy $15,000 for the gun. He took it and dad brought the gun home. After a long search, he found two guys from the old factory that ran a gun shop in central Pa. We took the gun up to them to look it over. They disappeared into the back room with the gun for twenty minutes , finally came back out and declared it was, in fact, the lost Invincible. Estimated value was $1 million at that time.

A lot better than my story. Approximately when was this?

Oh, I’m a little hazy on it. 98-‘02, maybe. Might have been a little earlier?

Edit: That was when it sold. I think he bought it in the 80’s.

The other day at the range. Had just got there and set up to shoot when a fellow comes in with a box of loading equipment. Said a friend was moving and couldn't take it where he was going so he put it in a box and laid it on one of the benches. He said it was all free.
I got a Rockchucker and an adjustable powder/shot bar for my MEC and a half bag of #8 shot. Another fellow picked out a powder trickler.
Last fellow said he could use it all as his SIL wanted to start loading, so he got a lyman case trimmer, RCBS powder thrower, MEC 700 shotshell loader and other stuff.

I left any pics I had back in my De. house. If you want to see the gun, Google it. Last I heard, it was being displayed at the NRA museum with the other two.

View attachment 1191668 I scored these two presses at a garage sale today got them both for $15ea. The Orange one which I think is a harters has a collet Style bullet puller and shell holder with it.
Neither one of them moves very freely but I figure a little elbow grease and ill have them working just fine in no time.

Call RCBS and they will send you a new handle - great score!

#1 Friend bought a Marlin 45-70 and wanted to shoot heavy (read Bison like) bullets. Ask on this forum and received answer. Said for 30.00 he ship all he had. Received 78 pound box
with lots of lead bullets from 300 grain up to 520 grains or so. Very Impressive
#2, bought old cock on close mauser in Dury's Gun Store on line auction. Had be sporterized and had Herters scope rings, bases and scope, all very professionally installed. Won bid at 119.00
and went to do local pick up. They gave me the Mauser. It is now a 6br with a recycled .243 Remington barrel and is capable of putting three in under an inch at 100. Many Thanks to Dury's.
#3 Gave my shop built 6.5 Creedmoor, nothing special, Remington 700 action in a varmint factory Remington stock with an X-Caliber barrel, Rifle Basix trigger simply because he coveted that rifle
so much. (He didn't have a Creedmoor) Gave me his 4-12 Zeiss scope. Nope wasn't really a trade as I was going to just give him the rifle. as per a line from "Dances With Wolves"
Good Trade.
#4 as stated above^^^^^^

Just remembered another from the good old days before all the Paperwork Stuff . Went to a big Gun Show and was walking toward the exit when I see coming in ...... a man with his son . The guy is carrying a rather small but very old wooden box . I ask the guy what he has in the box and he opens it up and there was a Savage 99 with two detached Barrels . I ask what he wants for it and he says he has to show it to a nearby Dealer . I figure there goes that Deal . The Dealer gives him a lot of bull and says he wont even make an offer .... and the guy comes back to me . I take a closer look and one Barrel is a 303 and the other Barrel is a 410 Gauge ...... all in an old Savage Presentation Box . It was not Mint and I can't remember exactly what I paid for it , but I later resold it and made more than $20 on that Deal !

Today, picked up 5000 CCI 200 LR primers for $65.00 at one of the LGS, Bergers were on sale also, picked up 500. Best deal I have seen in a long time.

The gentleman I got the presses from yesterday called me today. said come over he found some more stuff I might want.
So I get there and he has these old manuals, a mail order gunsmithing course he ounce he took in the 80s, and these wolf traps from when he was young and trapped in Canada. Needless to say I gave him another 50 bucks. I was there another 2 hours listening to his stories, priceless.

I know y'all will think I'ma fool for paying $550 shipping included for this blank I bought on EBAY. It had been viewed only once, had a buy it now price, and I bought it immediately. I used to buy and sell gunstock blanks...hundreds of them... so I know what I'm looking at. 3" thick, 9 lbs dense, flawless, and 30 years air dried. When you can't decide which side is best, you've got a great blank.
