Best Bargain ever

About 7 or 8 years ago I had a call from my buddy that works at Cabelas in KCK. He said they had 2 different 40X Remingtons on the used rack, not even in the gun library. I drove there immediately. One was 222Mag, the other 22-250. The 222Mag looked amazing, with a great barrel, the 22-250 looked like it had been ridden pretty hard.
The 222Mag was $450, the 22-250 was $500. Go figure. A quick search on the auction sites showed you couldn't touch a 40X for less than $8-900 at that time.
Whoever priced them was asleep that day.
Yep, the 222Mag went home with me that day. It got a good cleaning inside and out, and has proven to be rediculously accurate.

I have given away free stuff and even paid the shipping in return for a donation to this site. I usually offer a discount to gold or silver members on higher priced items. I wish both would catch on.

Dave.
Beware of pirates giving away free stuff, you never know what will show up at your door.

Used Kowa TSN-1 w/ 27x LER eyepiece, $200.00! I acted not too interested and slowly paid for it but ran out the LGS before they realized what they had.

Shows use but optics are clear and as good a deal as my $200.00 Rem 1100....no I think the scope was $100.00 not $200.00, even better! I get confused.

Seb NEO complete for $750. I figured it needed work for that price and I would still be ahead and have one immediately vs 1 year from that point. It was in perfect working order, just a little dusty. I disassembled and cleaned it well but it worked no better and was just as dusty in a month....and still is:rolleyes:.

Thanks @Thud

It was many years ago , but I just got back from a Trip and looked in the Newspaper . The Ad read : " Old Lever Action Rifle . Looks like an Antique . Marked Henry . $40 " . I quickly called and it was an old Lady who said she had just Sold it ...... I did not have the heart to tell her what she had done . And no I would not have taken it for $40 ...... $50 maybe ! Another time I was at a Garage Sale and an old gal had a Clip I needed . I asked her how much and she said : free , I want it gone . I think I gave her $10 or $15 for it . A really good Deal I got ( also many years ago ) was a Lyman or Unertl that came out of an old Barn . It was covered in Red Dust which I and the owner thought was Rust . Can't remember exactly what I paid for it , but I think it was around $50 . That darned Red Dust wiped off totally and it looked near new . Them were the good old days .

I bought this 1935 S&W K22 Outdoorsman on Gunbroker a couple years ago and I was sure it was engraved by Orville Kuhl. I knew a buddy of mine collected Kuhl engraved guns so when I got it I sent him some pictures and sure enough it was one he wanted and offered me 6 times what I paid... It resides in his collection now...

For a short while I was addicted to online auctions. There was a Martini Cadet listed as .310 cadet caliber. It had some aftermarket stocks on it so I bid $350 which would have been a great deal on a .310 BSA cadet. Well I got it for just $300 plus all of the fees and shipping, so just under $400 to my door. I inspected the barrel and it looked better than most so I loaded up a .310 and took it out to try it out. It fired but I heard the bullet drop into the woods about 75 feet out. After removing the case from the breach it was very deformed so I did a wax casting of the chamber. Someone had made it into 357 mag and hadn't marked the barrel. Last one I saw in this shape in 357 mag sold for over $900.

To top it all off, it shoots MOA with cast bullets.

I'm sure several of my fellow 12FV shooters might think that scoring one for $220 was almost too good to be true. I have two of them ($319 ea) and they both will go sub-MOA with hand loads. I've thrown in some upgrades, but as is they aren't bad and for the price are pretty killer.

I got a Belgium browning a5 12 gauge a couple years ago.. it was new in the box still wrapped in the wax paper.. a guys uncle had passed away and he was given his guns and had no use for it.. i got it for 600.. i thought that was a heck of a deal.. gun dated in 73 if i remember right.. its still wrapped in the wax paper.. may have a grandson someday that needs a good shotgun..

Still have the one I bought in the late 50's for $9.95 from one of the fellows my dad worked with who did gun smithing as a side line. He had bought a dozen or so of them and re-barreled and chambered them in .218 bee. You can't own just one of these.

Have 32-20 brass that I have taken a couple thousandths off the head to allow the action to close and shortened the case, dies and a mold that cast a healed bullet for it. Fun to shoot, have to look but I think I use 9-10 grains of 4227 in it.

Back when I lived in northern Virginia I used to go to Ye old hunter in Alexandria occasionally.
Stopped in one Saturday and they had a steyr mannlicker luxus half stock, double set trigger with a Leupold 2.5x8 in conetrol rings in caliber 22/250 for 499.00, I took it home with me.
The other one was a friend and I were heading out to do some scouting before deer season.
Stopped at a little bar to drink a beer and next door was a hole in the wall gun store.
The man behind the counter had a Marlin 39a on the rack.
Asked to look at it and as I was looking it over I asked how much he wanted for it and he said “I’d like to get 75.00 for it”
There was no negotiation.
I still have that one after 40 years.

I picked up a used Krieger Palma barrel for $65 shipped and rechambered it for .300WinMag. It started shooting just under 1/2moa and ran almost 2000 rounds before it went south. 18" of it currently serves as a hella stout handle for my swaging press so I'd say I'm still getting my money's worth!

My wife mentioned an estate sale ad "that had guns" so I had to go.... there was a table full of newer model 70 Winchester's with the BOSS that people were bidding like crazy on. I had noticed a Ruger Red Label on the table and it came up for bids - nothing but crickets!! I put in 1 bid and got it for $500. Trouble is, I can't hit anything with it.

Late last year I was with the family at a local flea market just cruising, not looking for anything in particular when my youngest (10y/o) goes "Dad, here's a bow for you." I spotted a cheap, old compound youth bow and quickly dismissed it. He said "no, over here." So I go over and I immediately knew what I was looking at. It is a custom hand made Great Northern long bow in immaculate shape with a good string! Seller comes over and almost ashamed told me it was $50, because they go for much more new. Well, like $7-800 new! He then proceeds to tell me he has the soft case for it as well!!!

I asked him to get the case, and it was legit. I had to play the flea market game and offered him $40, he declined, so I happily paid $50 for it! Contacted the maker and he told me this particular combination of bow he has never seen one come out of their shop and was personally made by the founder (his father)! Its a fantastic shooting bow, all osage and clear glass lams. Considering all my archery equipment was stolen a year before from my storage unit (along with many 10's of thousands of dollars of other tools, equipment, etc) I felt this was a good sign from the cosmos.

Last day of an estate sale a couple of years ago. Table full of reloading dies. A couple of sets I had use for. Lady told me if I took them ALL I could have them for $5 a set.
Had no idea what all was there got home and sorted them out. A set of Corbin dies and some extras to make 224 from .22RF jackets. Look to have never been used.

Needed an elk rifle, at the gun show i found a Savage 300win with a scope for $550. The seller didn't know much about it. It was an IOR 2.5-10 back when that was top of the line. Sold the scope and it was like getting paid to take home an elk rifle.

Got 2 guide lamp Liberator pistols from my brother in law. His dad worked at GM after the war and his first job there was to clean up the factory where they were made. Not a spot of rust! Went from table to table at a gun show trying to sell them. I felt like the pied piper with the vendors following me.
Not a collector, but I wish I would of kept one.

20200723_144230.jpg I scored these two presses at a garage sale today got them both for $15ea. The Orange one which I think is a harters has a collet Style bullet puller and shell holder with it.
Neither one of them moves very freely but I figure a little elbow grease and ill have them working just fine in no time.
