Best ARA factory gun?

This is what I’m thinking about. I realize this isn’t a factory rifle, but the setup would be the same. With my PQP rear rest the return to battery feels good. What do you think?

I like the idea for sure. My CZ 457 VT requires a little back load, and I usually get that with my fingers pulling back on the stock lightly, while recoiling against my thumb behind the stock. I'm going to do some testing now with something similar to this, most likely with the block behind the bipod legs. ;)

Some testing at 100 today with some ammo that I had given up on at 50 earlier, with a little wind blowing. I can't read wind hardly at all yet.

The bungee is an attachment to the stock, correct?

I am guessing that would be contested under rule 8.4.1.4.13 if you won a match or tourney. It’s an interesting idea though Lee, can’t blame a guy for thinking!

I’ve personally seen the CZ MTR Brad Sandy shoots. This year his agg is 2395/2500 for the National Factory Aline. MTRs hammer along pretty good if you can tune them up a bit and pay attention to your flags. A trigger and bench manners are your weakest links. I believe the Kites might have helped modify that gun a bit, within the rules. Brad is a nice guy, ask him next time I see him at a match. Have two of the MTRs of my own, won the first match of the year with one - first time I’ve shot it in competition. Shoot unlimited after the weather clears out here in the Midwest.
It will be how attach is defined as. there is no solid connection such as a bipod which is locked in place.

Hate to be the party pooper but they got that covered.

8.4.2.1.3. Anything placed under the front rest may not be attached to or contact
anything placed under the rear rest.

I think this rule came about because someone used a platform to align the front and rear rest.
the key word is contact.

I see several Tikkas that do very well at local clubs, I have one that will avg mid to high 2s at 50 with lot tested Midas + in good conditions. I am sure 457 MTR's will fill the bill to as well as Bergaras, the important things are rest/bipod setup, your technique and finding ammo your gun likes.

I was at the match where there was an uproar about this. A fellow had a sheet of plywood with holes drilled into it for his front and rear rest’s feet to sit in. He won BTW.

I second this. The whole setup and method of use is the difference maker.

Send a picture of your setup to Dawn at the ARA website and ask her if it is legal. They make the rules…
I’m not currently shooting ARA. I was just throwing out something that might work for someone. I’m going to the range this week and trying it. I don’t think Lee’s post pertains to this setup because there’s nothing under my bipod but the bench and nothing contacts my rear rest but the stock

Last year I beat a lot of CZs with my Tikka and nothing but a Atlas bipod and a good rear bag. This year I upgraded my bipod to a Rempel and went to a PQP rear rest. I beat some more CZs in my first two matches before I moved to UL. Ok, a few of the CZ were the same guys I shot against last year but some weren't. Those same guys are doing very well this year with their CZs and I'm really happy for them. Some are now doing very well with a B14R. Sometimes I still wish I was shooting with them in Factory class but I prefer the challenge that UL provides

So I agree with mrh1958, you can win with any of the quality rifles out there as long as you're feeding it good ammo

Did it look something like this? I described it on Rimfire central, and have been using it in Unlimited for two years now. I asked on the ARA website if it would be legal for Factory, but got no answer. I see they eliminated it in the current rules.

I just use it because it is very convenient for set-up, and keeps my rests perfectly aligned and spaced.

Yeah, pretty much.

I think this year you can still use a board under the both rests but having the holes drilled in it for the rest feet pegs to sit in would not

I was told my an ARA official this year that the one-piece board is still ok but it's already been decided that it won't be allowed in factory class next year

I tried that with my factory class gun with my front rest and PQP rear. It didn't work out so well on the range because the front and rear rests weren't connected. What I ended up doing is setting everything up so the rear sling swivel stud would stop against the dog bone on the rear rest. Works pretty well with the Rempel bipod

I’ll let you know how it works for me. I like shooting free recoil, I have a 3oz SS Scar. If the wooden block stays put I don’t see a problem. Time will tell, besides I’m only competing with myself.

How are the Bergaras doing in competition? Can't you put any Remington Model 700 style trigger in them?
That would seem to be a large advantage. I can't get my 452 under 12 ounces. I've been spoiled by less than ounce triggers.

For ARA Factory Class, Top shooter in our state is shooting a Bergara B14R followed by a CZ then a Tikka.

Yes...it uses a 700 trigger.

I had a B14R with a Jewell trigger. Three of my CZ’s were a hair more accurate with every lot of ammo I tried. I have a 1.5 oz. trigger in a CZ 452. It’s not cheap though. To be fair I think my B14R was a below average B14R. I’m tempted to buy another since it’s stock is nice for BR and it accepts 700 triggers, but that’s a $1000 gamble.840B44F1-B025-495F-81B3-3020E9024018.jpeg
