What is your intended use? Lots of difference between self defense and something you use to eliminate colony varmints.

I'd have to say a S&W M&P15 Sport II optics ready. I bought one last month to use as a range toy to keep from running up the round count on the DDM4 V7 Pro. The M&P is very accurate and 100% reliable. The factory trigger is actually pretty good, I won't change it. Fit and finish is impressive, especially for a $500 rifle.

I tend to favor WhiteOakArmament barrels. I've had excellent accuracy out of them. I build my own, you may not have the tools.

Pretty much the same for lowers. I have my favorites, but most will be acceptable. Understand you will need to do something about the trigger. But lots of options with a wide price range.

My most accurate AR wears a 12T Krieger barrel. Here is what I reduce the PD population with most often (20P).

Building one yourself has always worked out the best for me. But I’ve also never got one put together for a grand. Most the time I’m well over a grand in the upper.

Another vote for WOA if precision is the goal.

What is the intended use for the gun? Plinker? Longer ranges? Self defense? Answer that question and the responses can be more focused.

I just bought, with help from here a WOA upper with a Wilson barrel for $650 shipped. I went to the range 2 weeks ago with 8 different loads. 4 with 73 gr. Berger's. 4 with 69 gr. SMK. Out of those 8 five shot groups, 3 of them were slightly less than .75" with all but one being 1.345" or less. The one was 2.056. All loads were shot at 200 yards on a pretty good morning.
My suggestion to you is to buy a WOA upper then go to PSA and for under $200 get a complete lower. Then buy for $200 or so buy a aftermarket trigger. For your same $1000 or so dollars I believe you will be very happy and have a slightly custom firearm. Once again thanks to those here who talked me into the WOA upper. Aero was up there also but WOA was in stock and ready to ship.
