Best AR under $1,000?

I'd have to say a S&W M&P15 Sport II optics ready. I bought one last month to use as a range toy to keep from running up the round count on the DDM4 V7 Pro. The M&P is very accurate and 100% reliable. The factory trigger is actually pretty good, I won't change it. Fit and finish is impressive, especially for a $500 rifle.

I bought one also. very nice. Don't need a long barrel varmint rifle, this one I will leave alone and use it stock, I got out of the build/modify cycle. Just wanted a good 16"

My last match gun I built from spare parts in my stash. All I needed to buy was a receiver extension, buffer and spring, lol! All said and done, i think i have about $700 in it. 80% lower, blem upper.

But get a good barrel with head spaced bolt from WOA, Keystone Accuracy or Compass Lake Engineering. A decent trigger for not much is the RRA Varmint 2 stage. The A2 stock is actually very nice for a varmint gun, but the Luth-AR MBA-1 is another great adjustable option for a good price.

On varmint guns, the only other area I suggest spending good money is on the hand guard. A good, stiff, large diameter tube will work much better on a rest or bipod than many of the slim cool looking ones. The WOA varmint hand guard is top choice here.

Like the others have said, I would just build one. If you prefer to buy a complete rifle, the Rock River Arms varmint AR rifles are pretty accurate and they are right around the $1000 mark. I had one and it was surprisingly accurate. The RRA website has a whole bunch of AR models. Oh, and the RRA trigger on the varmint model is very good. You shouldn't have to upgrade it.

I have a rock river arms .300 BO with aftermarket trigger (rise armament) and magpul furniture that cost me $750 total. I also have a PSA 6.5G varmint styled AR with aftermarket trigger and magpul furniture for ~$800. I’ll post pics later.

Had a Rock River National Match for a number of years. Well built guns. I like their 2 stage triggers. Have one that I'm going to swap into a Franken gun that I built with A1 stocks (triangle hand guard) and an A4 upper.

Building is fun,,, simple and addictive. I have to say that Palmetto State Armory has a lifetime warranty and they manufacture 99% of the guns they build - upper and lower receivers, hand guards, and barrels (DC Machine owned by PSA). Their idea is that they have direct quality control on the entire build. Every AR is selling at post virus and post stimulus check prices though. They are innovative and listen to the market - I can't wait to buy one of their PS 9 Dagger pistols when they come on line.
