best 308 bullet for 1,000 yards

if building a 308 to shoot 1,000 yards what bullet would you build your barrel around,,,only rule would be to feed from AI mags,,and like to keep barrel no longer than 30 inches

recommend barrel length and twist also,,

155 scenars at max speeds or 185 Juggs 215/230 Hybirds?

Also are there any limitations ie do they all have to be fed from a magazine, what is the course of fire and more importantly what are the targets steal paper.
Gas gun or bolt gun, iron sights or scope
a little more info if not the build has an endless supply of options

I'm pushing 185 Juggs out of my .308 at around 2770 FPS in my F/TR rig. Seating depth OA is around 2.890.

Berger 175 grain Tactical OTM is my go to bullet of choice in my AI mags. IF, and I say IF it's real windy I also have the 185 Juggernauts on hand with the higher BC.

mrbig,
dreever is correct on the 175 BERGER OTM . I would add the 185 Juggernaut OTM to that list. IF tour AI mags are the extended version. Try the 200 grain HYBRID Target.

Since you want to run in a mag I assume you are not seeking the utmost in accuracy. Give the 178 Amax a try; it does fine in my 20inch 10 twist on 1000yd steel.

30" is a heck of a barrel to use with an AI mag, but to each his or her own. I would use the Berger 185 Juggernauts.

it will be for when the 6.5x47 barrel is shot out,,the 30 inch length is for sight radius,,,I was making hits on 15 inch gong at 1000 yesterday but want a longer lasting caliber next time,,it is just for kicks to break out on fun shoot days,,

would you bet against a hit with 5 tries on 15 inch plate at 1,000 kinda rifle,,,just for fun

Not at all, very doable. Now I understand.

made 1 hit last Sunday on 10 inch plate with a .5 diopter lens,,talk about a speck in your sight,, :)

Why not use Berger 210's???? From running ballistic calculations using Applied Ballistics lab supplied software-- at 2505-2535fps the 210's showed advantages at 1000 yards and beyond.

In the original post, one requirement was that the loaded rounds feed from an AI mag. Pretty sure that won't be possible with a Berger 210.

That is true. I didn't see that when I read it.

1:10, 30-32", AR Comp, 175 TMK. That is all 8)

Since you're using Alliant powders why not MR2000???
My current load shoots 2800fps in a 28" barrel. My SD is 3 and my ES is some where near 5. I can always get tighter velocity spreads with AR Comp. I do use MR2000. It is a little more difficult to get those numbers. I use it in my hunting rifle because I can get good velocity. I've played MR and it is a lot more temp sensitive than AR also.
