Berger question

I agree with riflewoman. I have had the best luck doing an OCW test just short (0.002-0.005 from the lands) of the lands, then moving the seating depth. Berger 210 VLD's, Berger 185 Juggernauts, Berger 77 OTM's - they have ALL worked best for me just nearly touching, touching, or just into the lands. The seating window has been very short.

The Berger hybrids seem to be slightly less sensitive to seating depth.

One thing to keep in mind... Jamming into the lands increases pressure in most circumstances. Proceed with caution!

When starting load development with VLD's I always load then 0.010" into the rifling.

Most of the time 0.010" in the rifling will not jam the bullet, so you can extract a live round with out any resistance and no worries about the bullet getting stuck in the lands when having to extract a live round.

After I have a powder charge weight figured out, I play with the seating depth a little.
Usually I'll try...
0.010" in the lands (like during powder charge weight testing)
0.010" away from the lands
0.020" away
and 0.030" away.

I have barrels that shoot the same from 0.030" jump to 0.020" in the lands. Can't tell a difference which is better.

Yeh, I plan to test but sometimes its nice to have an idea on where to start from people that have shot them. Since they cost more I hate to waste a bunch on seating depths that are going to be useless for the bullet.

You’d probably waste more trying to follow someone than just testing for yourself

I Always start at touch.
Try several in each direction.

For me it's been in lands 5-10 thou with any 6mmbra
