I believe they made the change because shooters were running the VLD's very hard in some rough barrels and the ensuing heat caused failures.
The thicker jacket cured the problem but it was ruining a large number of ejection pins on the point up die.They enlarged the pins diameter to cure the breakage problem but in doing so it caused the meplat size to increase thus lowering the bc number.
They went through alot of trouble but have cured the major issues.
You can point up the bullets using a Pindell,Whidden or Hoover die and re-gain the bc or shoot them as is.
If you weren't having any issues with your load or barrel you can stick with the hunting bullets and all is well.
