Berger 6mm 105gr Hybrid bullet test

I had a similar problem in getting testing done (matches every weekend, state championships, nonetheless), but did get to test them and did shoot them in two of the matches. I am finding very similar results as the others. Ididnt have time to do my usual experimenting so I simply tossed the 105s into the same cases, charge and primers that I use with my 108bt load and seated them 40 thous off lands (where I run my bts based on prior testing) and shot a group of 10 before I headed off to our XTC state championship this weekend. I fired 10 rounds of 108s and then immediately followed up with 10 rounds of 105s. the 105s had less vertical and had a tighter overall group (these were fired at 300 yards, from a sling and with irons) POI was 1/2 minute higher with the 105s. Scorewise, all 20 shots were well inside of the 10 ring on the MR63 target, with the 105s going 100-8x with the two 10s being out at 3. For my purposes, they passed the first test, so I loaded up 50 to take to Butner.

At Butner, I decided not to use them in the 800agg HP state championship on Sat as I had a small lead at that point and didnt want to have any sort of issue that might cost me the win...so the 108s did their job, as usual. On Sunday, it was time for the 105s to come out and play. In the Presidents 100 format team match, they shot really well, and I think we had a 99-7 or 99-8, as we lost one out the left early on in the string. But vertical was better than what I saw Sat with the 108s. In the EIC/DRM match later that afternoon, they again shot really well, with tighter vertical than I have been getting out of the 108s. I did have an 8 out the top for the first shot (no sighters) and I lost a 9 out the left. For the weekend, I did have the highest 600 yard scores in all of the matches with the last 10 shots at 600 on Sunday going 100-7x and 11 xs for that string. Considering conditions were way less than ideal, I believe the 105s performed extremely well and I will be acquiring more for further testing and use.

I am testing them in another T2k/bbl combination this weekend with a slightly different load. I also plan to experiment with the seating depth a bit, though I am going to wager that about anything will work but that we will find a particular point where the bullet and the bbl really like the combo. Thats been the case for me with the BTs and the VLDs.

Looks like another excellent bullet and my only gripe is that I am sitting on a ton of 108s and 105vlds as I am one of those that buy a lot of one lot as I hate the idea of having to retweak, though its usually not that necessary for HP shooting.

Guess tardiness is a commonality of shooters! Me too. :-\

Will be sending in my results today. Short summary: They don't like to jump. (at least not the distances I tested)

That's surprising, and I hope it's just your barrel. I tried out some 155 Hybrids this weekend, jumped .030", and they were excellent. Heck, I jump 105VLDs a long way... I don't mind sticking them in the lands if necessary, but it sure is nice when I don't have to worry so much about the seating depth.

What kind of distances were you trying them with?

I ask only because I settled on 0.020" kind of by accident after trying some 6XC cartridges I'd made up for my T2k (sold last year) in my (then new) long range rifle.

I have enough of the sample 100 left over to try some at different seatings, maybe this Friday @ 100 yds.

Yeah, I am curious about the "dont like jump" comment too as I jumped mine .040" and they seemed to really like that jump, just like the 108s do. I tested the 108s at different distances to lands and that was the winner. I have enough left too and will test at different depths this weekend and update my findings.
