Berger 6mm 105gr Hybrid bullet test

Hello again,

Just to make things more interesting, we're going to run two tests at the same time. I’m excited to announce that our new 6mm 105gr Hybrid bullet is finally finished, and we’re looking for people to test it. It has a higher BC than our original VLD bullet, and was designed to shoot in a 1-8” twist or faster barrel. We need people who will be able to complete the testing by Oct 3rd. I’m trying to include as many different people as possible in these tests, so please feel free to email me again if you weren’t selected in past tests. Again I’m very sorry, but due to shipping and customs restrictions, we will only be able to include people within the continental US on the initial test. If you are interested, please send me an email at michelle.gallagher@bergerbullets.com with the following information:

-Name, contact and shipping information.
-Type of rifle you will use to test these bullets (with barrel twist).
-Type of test you plan to conduct.
*please mention that you found this on the Accurate Shooter forum, and please specify that you are interested in the 6mm test.

We are looking for a variety of testing methods, so feel free to test them however you would normally test a new component. Those who are selected will be shipped 1 box of the 6mm 105gr Hybrid bullets right away. We will need you to report your results to us by Oct 3rd. Those who provide their results by then will receive another 3 boxes (300 bullets) of any Berger Bullets you choose as a thank-you from us for your time and effort.

We encourage those who are selected to report their results on this forum. Thank you all, and please let us know if you have any questions!

Warm Regards,
Michelle

Hi Michelle

I am discluded from your tests as a UK resident, but maybe you can advise if you have a bc on the new 6mm hybrid yet?

Kind regards
Gary Costello

Hi Gary,
Yeah, I hate that we have to do it that way, but the customs and licenses make it impossible. I believe Eric has the BCs for the new bullet, so I'll check with him and get back to you!
I hope you're well.
Thanks,
Michelle

The BC information for the new 6mm 105 gr Hybrid Target and a comparison to the original 105 gr VLD is:

6mm 105 gr Hybrid Target
Averaged G1 BC = .547
G7 BC = .278

Original 6mm 105 gr VLD (Now is our Hunting version)
Averaged G1 BC = .532
G7 BC = .272

The new 105 gr Hybrid Target is slightly longer than the original 105 gr so a true 1:8" is strongly recommended. The new bullet is made with the thicker Target jacket to withstand match shooting conditions. The Hybrid ogive is designed to be less sensitive to seating depth and has been working well in other calibers and sizes. This bullet can take all the 6mm cases can dish out and it has a BC equal to our own 6mm 115 gr VLD.

The moment we knew that we had to modify the 6mm 105 gr VLD Target with a larger meplat the need for this bullet was born. We've been working on it ever since. Bryan Litz has done an exceptional job with this design. I am very eager to see how they do in many rifles since I regard the 105 gr class of bullets as key in Berger's line. Between the 68 gr, the 80 gr and the 105 gr (among other weights) we have been especially blessed with our 6mm offering.

Regards,
Eric

Sent you an email. I've got an F-Class (Open) rifle, built on a Barnard Model P with a 29.5" Broughton 5C in 1:8 twist, chambered in 6 Dasher. Currently shooting 108BiB's out of it and would love to test the 105 Hybrid's against them. The 108BiB's were able to consistently beat out the 105VLD's at all tested ranges, at least with me shooting/loading. Plus, being tangent ogive, they were much easier to tune and aren't so sensitive to throat movement and seating depth issues. I'd love to try a bullet that marries the best qualities of both.

Michelle,

I've been begging for these 6mm hybrids!!! I'll be glad to test them!! I've been shooting the 108's for several years. If they shot as good as the 108', I'll use all I can get at the F-Class nationals..otherwise, I'l lbe shooting a older lot of the 108's that I've been saving:)

Everyone,

Thank you so much for all the emails! You've given us a huge response, and we have more than enough offers. It'll probably take us a few days to sort through them all, but we'll do it as quickly as possible.

Thanks again. Have a great day!

Michelle

Received the test bullets Friday. Look nice, very different from the 105VLDs.
Off to the measuring table we go...

Mine arrived on the Brown Truck yesterday.

No time to do any preliminary load testing but as Brian L. says the bearing surface is a little less than the 105VLD the load I use for those ought to work fine. Seating depth ought to be more flexible too given the new design. Hope springs eternal! Hard to imagine Berger could improve on what I already think is a perfectly fine product....

Will take some rounds along next week to test at Lodi at 600 (maybe 1,000 too?) & then again a Milan IL a week from Saturday, the last OTC match for me this year.

OK, so I was lucky enough to get selected for this testing program so despite the short window of time available for me to get these new bullets tested I'm done with my results: PDF attached.

(I'd like to get chrono data for one of the rifles I used in this test, my 6HAGAR. Lacking range access prior to today's deadline I'll have to leave gathering that info for another day.

My conclusions: the new 6mm Hybrid 105 is every bit as fine a product as my standard, Berger's 105VLD Target. I expect to be shooting the 6mm Hybrids once I've worked through my supply of the 105 VLD's. Great job Berger!

DITTO,

Michelle, is there anyway you can extend the deadline as I would love to do a complete test with the bullets?

I know the rules are the rules, but getting ready for two state matches and testing the bullets kinda put a strain on the testing.

We appreciate everything, but just need a little more time with the bullets to be accurate with our tests.

Thanks, Dennis

PS: They are very consistant seating! I was impressed with this part, but need to test more loads.
