Berger 105's VLD vs Hybrid

Another good bullet is the NEW Sierra 107. They now come pointed
I did not realize that there is a NEW Sierra 107. I looked on the Sierra site and could not find anything about a NEW 107.

Most likely Sierra has just stepped up and is pointing them on their own. From what I understand they are pointing the 2156 155 Palma bullet, I'll know for sure when I get mine.

They made new dies and are pointed by the die. The ones my buddy has really look nice and shoot great. The points look really good and he told me they measure way better then a Hybrid or VLD. I haven't shot any yet but suspect they will shoot good as my buddy has the same reamer I do. I know a few people that tested them and I think next year a lot more guys will be shooting them. I have seen lots of guns that won't shoot the Hybrid near as good as the VLD, in fact I only saw one that shot them good. That was in a 6x47 and the guy is driving them close to 3200. He is the only guy I saw winning regularly in 1000 yard benchrest. All you have to do is look at the 600 Yard nationals results and see the hybrid only showed once in the top ten. I believe they had a bunch of the best shooting 6MM's in the country. That tells you something. Matt

If you are buying or ordering the Sierra 107 how do you know if it is the NEW 107 or the OLD 107?
You could call Sierra and they can probably tell you by lot no. Maybe they changed the number or something with the new ones or it could be from a certain no. up. They should be able to tell you. Matt

I will call Sierra about the new 107 and how to make sure I am ordering the new one. Although I have lately been using the Berger 105 Hybrid and 108 Match I would like to try the new Sierra 107. I still have 2 boxes of what would be the old Sierra 107 and would like to do a side by side comparison with the new 107.

I will keep you posted and plan on calling Sierra tomorrow. It may take a while to get the bullets and do the testing but I will get back to you.

If you get them from PV. all they have is the new ones since summer, I saw them at WO. at Williamsport. So they aren't new any more……. They are pointing them like Tubb had them do on the 115's……. jim

I just got off the phone with Sierra. It looks like the information that you all posted about the NEW Sierra 107 is correct. They did change the dies and they are pointed and other than the point the 107 is the same bullet. The old 107 B.C. was .527 and the new 107 B.C. is .547.

Also as previously stated by others the technician said that all the major dealers should only have the new 107 as they had all been sold out of the 107 before the new one became available. I am going to order the new 107 from Powder Valley now for a comparison test in the future.

I picked up a hundred of the 107 SMK just a month ago. They definitely looked to have very nice meplats. I'll have to give them a try, once I get my new dasher build back. I'll post how it goes once I find out, although I think we should probably start a new thread for the 107 SMK so we do not derail this thread off topic.

Thanks...that is the same BC as the hybrid...wonder if that is an inflated BC or not? Has anyone who has tried them compared their drops?

I have been shooting the 105 Berger Target VLDs, Hybrids, and Sierra 107s in a 6BRX at 600 and 1,000 yard prone matches for several years. I was moly coating and pointing up all three bullets and sorting with a Tubb BSC tool. In the end, I obtained consistent excellent results with the 107 Sierras and the 105 VLDs. I have chosen to shoot the Sierras due to the cost savings. The 500 I purchased last week from Wideners were indeed pointed, so that is a further labor reduction which is a beautiful thing. They all need to be sorted for long range use so the less expensive bullet makes sense since they have worked well for me. YMMV
BTW, I found jumping the Sierras about .015" best in my rig.

Don't you think the Hybrid isn't inflated, they are a lot shorter than claimed……… jim

I've been good out to 800y using their numbers and my Oheler's fps? I hear you on the length...I have 3 different lots with 2 different lengths.

great thread ,thanks to all that chipped in.i have just bought a br and had started with the hybrid bergers but they were fighting me.a friend sent me some 107 smk to try ,i shot 3 groups to start ,only 3 shot off a harris in the field.9 shots and i was on to a load 30.2 of varget.that sounds warm but chrono'd at 2762 fps so a bit slow? no preasure sighns.now to play with seat depth.this load shot a six shot group at 200 of .70 but if i'm honest i think that was as good as i could shoot on the day.
