105 Hybrid lost cause in 6BR?

What is considered “hot” with Varget? I only tested 29.0-30.0. Granted I only shot 3-shot groups, but I do that as a quick recon, to identify the bad. Groups and ES won’t get better from 3 to 10-shot groups.

with that said, 29.0 and 30.0 performed the worst. At 30.0 I was
Pushing the 105s 2824 fps. But group was 1.80 moa with an ES of 39. Unacceptable. Notes attached.
The data with a / is data from Magnetospeed/Shotmarker. I don’t depend on SM data, it’s just another reference and to see correlations.
I can’t speak for 105 hybrid however the 107 sierra over 30.1 Varget shoots well in a 1-8 twist as per this 550 yard sample

will check out the rifle and scope etc for anything obvious. I did scope the barrel and noticed these machining marks on the lands right at the end of the throat. Other than that, barrel looks good.

testing was at 100yds.View attachment 1324712View attachment 1324713
wow---i have lived a sheltered life---i have never seen a custom/aftermarket bbl that looked that ruff !!--is this a savage or budget item--if a bullet runs over that cheese shreder it is going to be streaking copper all the way down the bbl and the torn jacket will not allow the bullet to fly right (in my humble opinion )--I would not waste any more components on tht rototiller of a chamber --life is too short to spend time trying to make that disaster shoot--Roger

I had the same issue could not get the 109’s to shoot and the 105 hybrid shot mediocre, when I ordered the barrel I ordered 7.5. Long story short when I measured the twist it was a hair over 8, called the shop they said bring it back and they will put a new one on, they asked me to wait a month as they had just got a big order, in the mean time I tried a box of the 105 vlds and holy crap they shot lights out. I’m keeping the barrel now and ordered a bunch of the vlds,

If you guys were building a straight 6BR to shoot the 105 bullets and 107 Sierra’s and 108 Berger’s would you choose the 7.5 twist over the 8 twist? I’m at 2650 elevation.

Seating depth appears to have worked.
Seated right at the lands shrunk the groups to under 1/2 moa. I can live with that

don’t think the barrel has an issue. Barrel maker offered to take it back. Told them I’d do seating depth test first. Also tried mag fed ammo (different bullet) and it shot really well.

My 6BR is just a simple Savage target action with a Shilen 28" 1-8 barrel in a savage f-class stock, I use 107 sierra 105 hybrid berger's and the 108 bergers with great success, Seated touching the lands with 30.0gr Varget for all loads. The gun shoots in the high 590's for 600 yard matches.
