Benchrest vs. F-Class

Who cleans every five shots? I shoot 1000 yard bench rest and have been known to shoot one rifle for heavy class, light class, and shoot offs all in the same day and be competitive, this will equal about 45 to 55 shots over the course of the day. I would agree though the two forms of shooting have more in common than not. I will add this though it should not be assumed that shooting as fast as humanly possible is a advantage as I have tested this theory and have found that not to be the case. Through practice I've found what is fast enough with out my system falling apart. Now don't get me wrong each platform, set up and human will have there own speed cutting off but there is a cut off. Pro and cons to both forms of shooting but end result the same, the smaller you keep it the longer you will hold the x ring from a tuning stand point. Now we deal with wind values. Happy shooting

I went through a couple of miserable matches (rain) last spring in Fclass , and I've froze my butt off in bench also. All of this is a outdoor sport. We seem to have several using both for cross traing in our state right now. Good shooters too!

Shawn, it won't be long and I will get my feet wet in f class also. I know one thing that's different. A thread here recently was asking about rain covers, and there was pictures posted with guys laying in the mud with clear condoms laying over their optic/load port area. Man I have to tell you, I might be easy to beat if it's raining. I for one will melt lol.

Tom

Like this? Who is that fool? Oh wait, it's me. LOL

Tom!!!! We will look ridiculous together that for sure. One of my first field shoots I ever competed in had rain all day from start to finish in a farm field to boot!!! I showed up with a 300 weatherby mag and a vias muzzle brake. We shot about 70 rounds that day & and I had mud everywhere, every shot the pot hole would just get bigger. Move to the next station start over, thank goodness it was a remigton 700 nothing kept it from cycle I bet my panda or haverkamp would have ceased. What we to fun!!

As an F-TR shooter this thread is something like seeing your parents having sex, you can't un-see it.

I always hate to see these this vs. that threads. So I will say this. I am a F-Class shooter. But I also dabble in long range bench rest. I see it as a learning opportunity. I believe that there are things to be learned from all of the shooting disciplines. F-Class made me a better bench rest shooter. And bench rest made me a better F-Class shooter. They are the same, only different. But the one thing that has remained constant, is I have met some great people in both disciplines that I consider friends.

It would be nice to do F off a bench. My GEEZER arthritic neck doesn't like hanging out prone very much....
That can be done! BUT you are not eligible for any National Records. There is a fellow at Bayou (I believe his name is "Swampshooter" on this forum) who has a written variance from the NRA.. It is eady to obtain too.

Thanks for the heads up ( pun intended ) I will look into it right away. A lot of good shooting here in western Pa.

We shoot 600 yard F class April thru Sept on thursday mornings at Benchrest Rifle Club just west of St. Louis Mo. We have 3 different classes---F-Open--FTR--and Bench Open---shooters competing against each other in their class only.... Bench Open is usually the largest class as a lot of the old GEEZERS mentioned above are there... young guys too...we usually get 15 or so on the benches and another 15 or so on the ground for Open and FTR...works out awsome... Dusty from above, looks like your only about an hour away, you probably know that already...Neil G
