Benchrest bullet making

My prices have not really went up on trays I think I started at 280 now they are 300

George, just tryin' to pull your chain - wouldn't all those alignment pegs, threaded pins, and holes have to be worth something!??! That's why you're so far behind!:p
I'll repeat - well, send you all back to post #29 - I've always believed that the making of BR quality bullets was/is simple . . . perhaps my gift is a tolerance for boredom.o_O With good tooling and jackets, making and winning using ones own stuff is very rewarding - having great competitors use your stuff to collect fake wood makes even a vicarious existence seem dignified. :D If you get into bullet making, keep notes & never compromise. Unfortunately, you will never get quality information from any bullet maker. It’s some kind of secret. No one will be willing to help you with quality information. It’s really, every one seems to think that have perfected it and have the secret. In reality it’s all speculation. Try 75% lanolin and 25% engine assembly lube to start. Modify the mixture until the finished bullets drop out of the pointing die. No one will devolve the exact recipe, they are all threatened. Good luck.

Hummmm that’s funny my mix is published in Tony Boyer’s book. Go to TSC and pick up a tub of bag balm (aka Utter butter). Then go get a large inmate size jar of vaseline. Weigh out equal parts of each. Scrape into mixing tub. I usually place the unmixed contents in the microwave for 30 seconds to help with mixing. Stir contents until you have a one color which should be light yellow.

I use straight lanolin. It's not a secret. Plenty of bullet makers will share info with each other and anyone else. The reason you sometimes can't get good information is not some sort of bullet makers' cabal, it's just that the details are highly specific to your setup. I might use twice as much lube as the next guy because I do things a little differently. There's only so much advice you can use before you just have to try it and sort out the kinks.

Thank you very much. I’m slowly gathering information about this new endeavor. I find the whole process to be quite rewarding.

Thank you very much Bart. I truly appreciate your advice.
