Bullet making questions????

I figured I'd go straight to the pros and ask....

I'm tired of searching for Berger bullets all the time, out of stock or sorry those are in production and won't be available for another year. I know they are great and very sought after and just about all of my bench guns love them but I'm looking for another way to stay on top of my game.

I'm looking at starting to manufacture my own bullets and yes I know it's a lot hard work. I'm interested in purchasing dies that will produce a 6.5 140 gr. hybrid style bullet similar to those of the Berger design. I'd like a press / system that will swage more than one core at a time and the same with the jackets.

I've read that the sta-moly jackets are rated higher than the J-4 jackets, I don't know that for sure and that's why I'm asking. Is there any benefit of swaging your own cores or just buying them?

Any and all advise of die makers, and supplies would be most appreciated

Thanks
Darrin

You would be just as well off waiting for bullets, as you
would be w/several $$$$ invested in equipment waiting on
jackets that are just as hard to come by. LDS

If I can find a reputable source I'd be prepared to make the investment, small or large. There's a lot of people doing it and some are even in it for the money so I know there must be a source out there somewhere.

The 6.5mm jackets will be the big issue. Maybe @BartsBullets will chime in on the total cost but im sure youll be out $10k and a year before you make the first bullet. As far as the cores there again if it was a 6mm you can buy them easier than make them. As far as the 2 at a time thing forget that or youll be making 2 different bullets into the box- not unlike every other non custom bullet but thats a whole different story

Bart might be a bit tied up, I've sent him a few messages but I haven't heard anything back yet. Everyone is so eager to post don't do it for so many reasons and the number one reason is that you can't get the supplies. That can't be true, you have Clay Spencer, Swampy, Bart and so many more that are constantly producing bullets so they're getting the supplies from somewhere. I do understand they're in it for the money and make big orders so if it takes a big order I'll make a big order. I've kind of ran some numbers and came up with a number of around $40,000 to get it started and I'm ok with that. Who knows I might retire again and just make bullets. Lol...

You can get 6mm or 22 cal stuff all day straight from bart. Its the 6.5mm that will be your issue. Does clay spencer still have any bullet making stuff?

I’m not going to say don’t do it. Sounds like your clear on the dollar investment
Contact George Ulrich or David Detsch for your dies. Order your j4 and or Hines jackets and wait til it all arrives maybe a year but you gotta start

Above the financial investment there is a steep learning curve and you can’t expect the guys that have years of time and a 55 gallon barrel of mediocre Bullets before they figure it out to just up and tell all

Some are willing to help but it takes time. It is pretty cool tho to shoot some small stuff with your own

Jay Lynn Gore has a complete bullet making operation for sale. Several presses, core cutters, and all that is needed for 22 & 6mm. Buy his setup and call George Ulrich for the 6.5 dies. He has a lot of jackets also.
I believe all of this comes from Jim Riding's estate. Jim used to make Shilen's bullets and was one of the principals of the SUPER SHOOT in the old days. I believe he has 9 A2 presses, several rolls of lead core wires, multiple core trays, 3 core cutters, a custom roll around table with everything mounted to it.
Jay Lynn will sell or part. Send me a PM for contact.

If you are looking for a Night and Day job, making bullets is for you! Be sure you have no shoulder problems or issues with arthritis.
