Bench source , one torch or two??

Other than dwell time is there any difference in the quality of the annealing process using one torch verses two with the bench source??Advantages, disadvantages?? Thanks Troy

Because I do both 284 and 6.5x47L cases, I use a single torch. I keep one set for each case height.

This is exactly my scenario. I have a 6 bra and 338 edge.

I anneal with only one torch because I do it on .223 and 6.5X47 cases. I certainly don’t want to over do it! Takes very little time! I guess it’s whatever works best for you.....

One torch just as effective, two makes achieving desired temp quicker. 750f INSIDE case neck then 1-1.5 seconds. Get tempilaq before you start.

I prefer 2, I aim them at the neck/shoulder junction and have the case leaving the flame just as the blue flame shows a bit of orange color after it is deflected off the case. IF I do anneal.

I`d start out with 1 because of dwell time. New to this you want things going slower, double torches can overheat quickly. Add 2nd one later after your skills improve. You`ll have the hang of it inside 30 minutes!

I have always used 2 ( and use same procedure Alex does), but since annealing brass is a temperature/time phenomena, I am going to try just one torch next time I do a batch with, of course, more dwell time. For the most part, I only anneal 223 or 221FB based cases and when using 2 torches feel that maybe I have to get the cases too hot for the short dwell time (2-3 sec). This leads to a nasty, tough tarnish on the cases. Just thinking a little lower temperature combined with more dwell time will get a nice job done with less peak temperature, hence less tarnish. Does this make sense?
BTW- Wish I knew what the max temp and dwell time was for factory, like Lapua, brass is.

I always clean case before annealing. Spray alcohol on a clean hand towel
and wipe case.

I bought a Giraud in May of 2011, I've annealed a lot of brass, my own and friends. There is way more spot on advice today than when I started. I'm pretty sure I started out over annealing every pc I did, not sure if tempilac was available then, or if I just never knew about it. I had some temp sticks that just made a mess.
2 yrs ago I bought the 2nd torch for it and modified things, today I feel my annealing is way more consistent. The amount of culls when seating a bullet that does not feel right has shrunk over 80%. Dwell times were cut by 40%, which may not be important to some, but it is rare I do under 350 pcs at a time and usually it is over 1000 pcs.
I would not run my unit with 1 torch ever again. And when AMP gets that case feeder on the market, I will be annealing in style,lol

I run a Benchsource.

After a while I decided one torch was enough.

Especially for very small cases and cases with necks turned thin.

The normal 308 sized cases, but even more so the longer cases, you won't get a high enough heat to ruin the work hardening in the heel of the case if you anneal properly, which means using Tempilac on the inside of the neck.

Plus it seems the longer duration of using one torch gives that nice annealed color easier, which BTW has little to do with whether a case is heated correctly to temp or not.

What you are trying to do is restore from work hardening and preserve the elasticity of the neck and shoulder area. I don't think some on youtube realize how hot the necks got on their brass!

Loading 6 - 6.5 - 338, I have been using both I just figure it probably a little more even heating and as other mentioned with less heat transfer to the base on the case.
