"Bench manners"?

Don’t believe that for even a nanosecond!

Well “seasoned”!
Both of those towels have so much Butches Bore Shine, Imperial Wax, and other unknown compounds soaked in that they could be classed as a EPA Superfund Site. :)

When I am through practicing, or at a Match, , I Just toss them back into the range box with the other, (matching) equipment.

Years ago, Bart told me that watching me shoot was painful.

Don't be afraid to see how things go, pinning the gun. You might surprise yourself.

Regards
Rick
I agree 100%! I’m a pinner, never could get comfortable with free recoil. I push the rifle to the stop with my shoulder while I’m throwing the next round in and then release the pressure to “touch” and let it fly. The key again is consistency and not helping that 5th one into that small hole you put the first 4 in.
Not saying I’ve ever done that.
Just what works for me, YMMV

Take what you will from the posts here… there are some great things said from great people and my two cents… whatever way you learn to shoot your best is the way you must do it every time, from just going out for fun to winning a national championship you must do everything the same each time. Shooting great will become muscle memory. When I started time flew by on the bench and now it’s in slow motion, I see each step as I’m doing it.

A lot is personal preference. Ya don't see a lot of them but I love my old SEB Bigfoot with angled ears. Aside from the personal aspect, getting one that fits your stock well and not too hard or too soft matters, as well as the bottom being made so that it doesn't rock on a flat bench. Ear material is another aspect. I prefer cordura or slick fabric over leather but that's probably a personal preference thing. Both work.
I just got a new SEB rear bag, offset, 5" to the bottom of the ears (BGSL you have to have that or something under it) tried it the first time and the butt was kicking up, took quite a bit of sand out and SO much better! I think it is a keeper! (Says CRUM on the side so yea, no one else would want it) LOL

Out of all things, practice your breathing discipline, control heartrate
learn how to slow it down and keep it down low
and smooth consistent Trigger follow through
---------------
IE: if we get excited and start shooting a small group, all that excitement builds up and spoils the 5th shot if you dont learn to control these things
--------------
Also a little tip, if you practice shooting small groups with say a 4x or 7x scope
and start shooting small at 100 yds
You will definitely be able to pull off consistent small groups with higher power settings.
its like practicing at 600 yds so that 100 yds is easy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I look at this whole thing like Arnold Swarzenegger body building
It is a discipline,
He might bench 400 lbs
but he also warms up with 100 lbs sometimes,
He may hate doing situps, but he still forces himself to do it until he gets good at them
Get my drift?

I like the PROTEKTOR bags with the slick sliver material on them. My problem was getting things just right so I could get my body in the exact same position each time. I built my table from an aluminum frame with folding legs and a 3/4" plywood top but the most important thing was the seat. We shoot in the forest at different places with different terrain. So i got a good adjustable stool so no matter were I was, I could position my self the same each time. It made so much difference having my butt at the right elevation, then everything else just feel into place.

Let me add another aspect after reading what Rick typed in.....;
Rifle weight. I shoot free recoil but I also shoot a UBR type
Unlimited rifle at 22 lbs. I was heavier but Tack Driver rules
keep you at 22 lbs. That said......Input disciplines can be quite
a bit different compared to one shooting say a 10,12, or 13 lb gun.
With my methods and equipment, I threw "breath and squeeze"
out the window years ago.
