bell and carlson benchrest makeover

I too was not satisfied with my B&C stock on the 700P I bought a couple of years ago. So before I took it up to Stick at S&S to get it re-barrelled and squared up I decided to modify the stock. Here are some pictures of what I did. So far I am quite happy with how it worked out.

Did you use fiberglass or just wood and bondo?

Just MDF and body filler. Worked on enough boats and Corvettes in my lifetime to get it figured out. It has held up very well. The most difficult thing was getting everything dead straight. Didn't take long to find out the original stock wasn't.

The stockade benchrest stock looks pretty good to me for the money other wise see if McMillan has something to put the savage in but from your pictures your stock should work.

Until I can afford the candy paint I'm wanting this is the finished product.20160420_193144-1.jpg

Got my new wider front bag in the mail today. Set up for the first time and the difference is amazing. The wider flat forearm makes all the difference in the world.

Mike,

Wow! That is a beautiful job. Amazing what you can do with a little wood, bondo and a good eye. Very nice.

Thank you Paul. Same back to ya. Your bolt work is awesome. I enjoy doing things that test the limits of my skills. Never know what you can do unless you try! Probably wouldn't try making parachutes though!

Mike,
Probably a good call on the parachutes. Lol.

You can also make what is essentially a adapter or shoe from kydex in your oven with a wood form that can then be attacked tot he forend or the under side of the butt! To make it ride a bag better.
