Bedding Question

I visited with an old time rifle shot the other day about my .22 LR bench gun. During the discussion, we discussed bedding options. He stated that bedding the pillars and each side of the pillars with free space between the pillars was all that was needed to properly bed an action. I am not sure whether he was referring to rimfire actions only or to all actions. I have always bedded continuously from rear tang to lug in the past.

What is your position on this thought? Continuous bedding or bridged bedding???

Thanks,

Cort

Seems to me that the bridge bedding would give a bit of wiggle room for the action to flex.
kinda like only making your bed half way..
If it works seems like everyone would be doing it.......

If it has a large magazine port area, I see where he is coming from. If single shot, I would bed it the entire action.
