Bedding Coumpound

If I need to color it for a colored stock I prefer Brownells Accra glas, but other than that Devcon is hard to beat......

Go over to the home page and read the 'Stress Free Pillar Bedding" article. Personally I find bedding to be very stressful but that is just me :)

Hi All Devcon is great use its very easy to get it to stay where you want it and a piece of cling-wrap,plastic foil ) is the best release agent just make sure you mix the devcon correctly and dont be in a hurry - it has about 45 minutes working time ---- works great for me ----

CLING WRAP FOR RELEASE AGENT ???????

Makes me wonder where all the skin tight fit went, did you ever measure that stuff ?

I can understand cling wrap, unpolished car wax or some other spacious release agent if you're going for a glue-in or skim bed.

I don't do glue-ins and use teflon-based car wax as release agent. I apply first layer, polish it, apply second layer and polish it also. I get very intimate fit.

BTW, I also pour pillars with Devcon. I could machine the pillars from steel or aluminum, but to me it seems like more work. After all, I want to bed bottom metal,at least pillar area) also.

Spook:

My gunsmith uses Marine Tex because of it's long work time. He says Devcon sets to quickly for him. My bedding job has held up just fine.

I have used Marine Tex for the past 10 years and doubt i could be persueded to change. The stuff is great.

How critical is the mix on Marine Tex? How do you measure the portions if you are doing a small re-bed job like a recoil lug?
By reading the instructions it needs to be mixed pretty accurately or the cure will be affected.

Thanks, LG

I used Bisonite for 20+ years, have since switched to Marine Tex.

Release agent is Brownell's spray Accra Release which just washes off with brake cleaner.

I use Devcon Plastic Steel and its great. It has a long working time with a consistancy like peanut butter. I use Pam with Olive oil in it for a releasing agent. I have done close 30 with this method and had great results with zero stuck or mess-ups.

It took me a while to figure it out { not a quick study }and the mix ratio by WEIGHT is 7 to 1. Just use your digital powder scale and you are GTG. Relaese agent? Just any old cheap car wax you happen to have left over.

I am working on a "Tinker Toy" type of stock. If I can make it shoot good I will be through with bedding !!!!
