bedding compound

devcon! you can order just enough for one gun. it cleans up easy. i bedded a rifle last weekend actually. im sure all the others are good too. a bedded action in any matireal should be the samr IMHO..

I have used marine-tex, acra-glass and devcon at least twice each --- I now exclusively use devcon. Buy a pound of it and you can bed a number of rifles and it does an excellent job.

Hi guys

I am willing to do my own glass bed, but ian't sure what is the right product.

Will one of these be the right stuff?

3M Automix 8115 Panel Bonding Adhesive. I use this stuff to bond roof skins and panels on cars at my shop. 1 hour work time, and you can bake at 140 deg. Last one I did I had action popped out 2 hrs after I put the compound in.

If you have any friends that work/own a body shop ask them if they have a Automix gun.

The Devcon will certainly work; not familiar with the other stuff. Do they carry Devcon Steel Putty, rather than the aluminium? If so, I would use it; it's stronger, and will clean up (as in file or grind) more easily. You can also drill and tap it if necessary.

I googed this and see its listed as a liquid. I have never used it, but it sounds like it might be better suited to an action glue-in than a bedding job. Any idea on shrinkage or how easy it would be to release the bond with heat or cold?

Devcon and other epoxies mentioned work well on bedding because the consistency is more of a paste than a liquid, though I have heard JB weald criticised for being too runny.

Its not a liquid it is what I consider to be the perfect
consistency for bedding. Shoe polish, one shot ect all work great for release agents. Shrinkage is not a problem, I have used just about everything for bedding and nothing beats this stuff in my opinion.

Thanks for the additional detail.
