Bedding Coumpound

I'd probly try Barnard bedding block for my next gun project. There's some bedding,or glue-in) to attach the block to the stock, but it should be less fuss than full bedding job.

And I'm such a poor shot that there shouldn't be much difference between block and full bedding...

Used MarineTex on a stock this weekend. Bell and Carlson fiberglass that some idiot ground out and did not have a single surface that was parallel. Made an aluminum pillar for the rear stock screw. 98 Mauser looks great. Have used Marinetex on a 77/22Hornet that has so many surfaces to bed that you must do one, wait and then go on to the next. With the bedding and .005 shim between the bolt halves, it went from 3"+ to just over 1" at 100. MarineTex on a LVSF remington made it a killer rifle.

I don't think that the amount of resin/catalyst is terribly critical. Using the 2oz packs is easy.

MarineTex is so great because it cleans up with warm, soapy water, sets up in 3-6 hours and gives you a long time to work on application. The White is easier to color.

Did a Yugo receiver ring free float with Midway Miles Gilbert this week. I like the equal parts mix and it took Brownells brown dye perfectly. Does have to set up for 24 hours.

I plan to try Devcon on a couple of HS skim Jobs.

From what I've heard Devcon isn't recommended for skim bedding. This is consistent with my findings while playing around with left-over bedding compound. Thin Devcon breaks with moderate force, but thick Devcon is as hard as a rock.

IIRC some smiths used to do initial bedding with Devcon and afterwards skim bedding with Marine-Tex. Just a hear-say, though...

One more for the DEVCON TITANIUM it's expensive but works great
