Bedding a custom action...

Thinking about working up my first "custom rifle" in 6BR for both varminting and club level benchrest competition. Are custom actions such as a BAT SV drilled and tapped on the underside and the holes spaced so as to mount with say an HS Precision stock with its metal plate, or a McMillan.

I assume the underside of the action is drilled and tapped, and possibly each maker spaces the holes as he sees fit. Then is it a matter for the gunsmith to drill the stock such that the holes align and then possibly pillar bed?

I assume a glue-in is just that...not sure I want that for a hunting rifle.

Thanks

The BAT SV is drilled and tapped at about 5 inches center to center for the action.
Remington SA's are about 6 1/2 inches apart.........
Both are very different the way they set in a stock...
I doubt you'll get a SV in a HS stock with out a LOT of work involved..
McM could probably fit one for the SV.... if you have the time, and money......
Joel Russo will set you up with a perfectly inletted stock for the SV quicker and cheaper than any will............

Thanks for the reply. I have seen many stocks and some actions described as drop-in replacements for a Rem 700. I had no idea the HS stocks would not accept a BAT SV. Thought McMillan would offer many stocks ready to receive a common Bench Rest action such as BAT. So...typically any stock purchased has to have custom work done to receive the chosen action?
