Bass Pro..King of the Hill

I prefer goods made overseas.

Well, DUH....no shocker there. In the best of worlds, you'd, every day, be buying goods made overseas locally. Locally, as in; at the point of origin.

Let me put my tinfoil hat on..................OK

Do I smell a conspiracy? Abercrombie & Fitch used to carry some fine weapons a LONG time ago, then they went to clothing primarily. I think Eddie Bauer used to carry sporting stuff then went to clothing. Just wondering if someone behind the curtain is pulling the strings to reduce firearm related stores. You know, part of that new world order stuff.

I provided the facts above, maybe you can have someone read them to you?

I thought that you would be type of individual that you appear! To stoop to the vernacular, but not completely..."Everybody likes a little a.., but nobody likes a "smarta.."! As I do not know that you presented "facts", I will not accept them as facts! This is a shooting & reloading forum. Take your opinions and so called facts about credit card usage elsewhere! Maybe then you can find someone who will care! This is my last response to your "facts and opinions" ! I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person!

Cleaned up my posts so not to offend the opinion police. Bottom line- Cabelas has been very good to me irregardless of how they can afford to offer their Cabela's point system.

I'm certain that there are many Cabela's customers who are distressed by the acquisition by Bass Pro. I have friends who shop regularly at their store. Hopefully, you can find another vendor, if necessary, who will provide what you need at least as good as Cabela's did, maybe even better. Good Shooting! Beware of the opinion police!

I don't know about conspiracy...but, you never can be certain! I would suspect that there is more margin in clothes & associated items than would be available on firearms, ammunition etc. Then there are the license headaches. Competition from vendors without the overhead is probably what drove their departure from being a "real outfitter" to high end clothing stores! Plus, they can emblazon their names on the clothing and walking billboards at no charge!

I bought my first "lure kit" from Cabela's back in 1969 or 70, when they were a mail order add in the back of Field and Stream. Bought so much stuff over the years, They used to send me the hard cover catalogs. Sad times these days.
+1

Maybe we should think about supporting the small gun shops and fishing shops. Sometimes they carry the stuff the big stores wont. That's how the gun shop I worked for back in the mid 80s did. Oh! and personalized service helped too.

+1. I buy all firearms at the local shop. Ammo I buy via the net as he can't afford to order and then charge me and still make a profit and get me to buy it. Margin is way to thin for that on ammo.

I don't like it..... I have only been in a couple of Bass Pro shops, but I saw them as a cheap imitation of Cabelas.

Fortunately I have reached the point in my life where I have all of the firearms I will ever need or want, and more hunting apparel than I can ever wear out. My purchases of consumables is done over the internet or by my gunsmith. Buying in volume and group buying to split hazmat fees keeps my cost affordable. Our local Sportsmen's Warehouse has a well stocked reloading inventory in case I have an urgent need. We also have several smaller commercial gun shops who have managed to hang on, just in case.

Your Cabelas points don't come from interest on other accounts, the 1% comes straight off the processing fees from cabelas having their own cards. The average cost to use your card is 3%or higher, they are rebating you 1% that they get from the processing fees.

Plus, if that small bit of rebate is all it took to get you to walk through the front door (much less purchase anything) at Cabela's, their advertising/ marketing budget got off really, really cheap.

It's also pure demographics.
As America's population becomes more urbanized, the great outdoor experience for many is fiddling in the garden or a trip to the farmers' market.
