Great American outdoor Group buys Sportsmans

I am sure they will have whatever customer service consumers enjoy now, reduced to BP levels, just like what happened to Cabelas.

Did not Bass Pro Shops (Great America) buy Cabela's and now they own Sportsman Warehouse ? This may not be too good a deal for the majority of hunter/shooters. They seem to favor fishing, etc.
Yes Great American who owns Bass Pro and White River Marine and Cabelas now owns Sportsmans Warehouse.

I realize bigger is never better but our SW really sucks in the reloading department and has for years now, hopefully it does not get any worse . Kind of scary if you think about it ,once GM monopolies on all the stores from coast to coast our government will have only one button to push.

Our local Cableas became quite a bit nicer after the Bass Pro deal. Much better selection of hunting clothing, the site looks nicer and they seem to have people working in there that sort of care to help a guy.

Oh, I agree that the stores are attractive and the staff very helpful. I’m retired and go during the week when it’s slow and they have time.

But they cheapened the products. Used to love Cabelas brand stuff. Good quality, good material, good warranty, it was cut well, and it lasted.

After Bass Pro....its really just like Red Head crap (exception is that I have a pair of Red Head lace up boots for $158 for upland hunting and they have been great....bought at Cabela's...haha). In particular, the cut of the clothing is now cheap and tight...just to save some pennies. Apparently, they think hunters are anorexic runway models! LOL

Another example is the Cabela's Wooltimate pants used to be...well, wool. Now, 77% polyester. So, I bought a pair from LL Bean....95% wool. And if you waterfowl hunt, wool is your friend.

Another example is the ubiquitous Cabela's camo ball cap. Used to be sort of more canvas type thicker cloth...now, its crap. Used to have fabric and buckle adjustments....now, crappy plastic hole/pin type adjuster.

Pretty much in every way, Great American has turned Cabela's into another Bass Pro. I have no idea who is the marketing genius who came up with the idea that they needed two brands of the same cheap low quality.

If they were smart, they would have preserved Cabela's as their top shelf brand and Bass Pro/Red Head as their more budget brand.

Cabela's is dead and gone as I once knew it.

This is GREAT NEWS! I mean, I thought I only had two places to find those cherished camo undies from China, and the flimsy "don't fit a darn thing" cleaning rods, and those kettle smokers made from remanufactured cans and Japanese cars! Now I have three choices!!!

We need to start a campaign to avoid buying Chinese made products. I no it is hard but we can research what we want and find better products else where. KUIU gear has already started to move out of china and said they will be out of china buy the end of 2021. SAY NO TO CHINESE JUNK

There is a very large and newer, optics company that I bought a pricey spotting scope from. Opened the box and it said made in China. Returned it to the store and got a refund. Bought a Kowa with Japanese glass. Felt good about it. Not American but better than China.

I hope they dont but I would expect to see Sportsmans Warehouse start using Cabelas favorite marketing trick. They seem to like using a discontinued item that they have very few of (or none of) in stock as the headliner on their sale ads. When you go to purchase the item that they listed in their flyer, you find out that they have none in stock, have no idea when or if they will be getting more, and will not even let you pre-pay for the next one that they get into inventory. They do that crap just to get people into their stores to buy other non-sale items. After buying from Cabelas since I was a kid, I am very nearly done with them.

One wonders if Cabela's and Bass Pro are not headed down the path of Abercrombie & Fitch. Time was when Abercrombie & Fitch was an outfitter and sold fine firearms and fishing equipment. Today they sell skinny jeans, short T-shirts and nipple rings to likely lads living in their mothers basements. Walk into a Cabela's these days looking for reloading components or fine firearms, the gun library is nearly empty but there are lot's of shoes and cloths. High margin on those items.

Your post reminds me of the FILSON ads I get.

Apparently snowflakes spend a lot of time and money to look ...'rugged'... that seems to be where their marketing has gone.

Well, perhaps they will screw it up as bad as the did Cabela’s
It’s a shame.

The year before the BPS buy out my family had so much success at Cabelas it would last a lifetime. They were letting us put firearms(or anything) on layaway on a 10% off in store day and then use the $20 off 150 coupons from receipts for each payment over the phone, pay the rest with 20% off gift cards, after haggling/price matching the firearms to drop shippers to begin with it was a site to behold. I knew it wouldn’t last forever, but man while it did we had a blast.

BPS of course put a stop to the fun immediately, but they do consistently get in ammo right now and it’s reasonably priced, so I check it out a few times a week since I work so close.
