Basic "First" set of bags?

MikeMcCasland

Team Texas F-T/R
Hey Guys,

I finished up building a PRS rig and I'm planning to enter my first PRS match. I've shot a bunch of F-Class, but never done anything PRS related. I'm so ignorant to this stuff, don't really know the right questions to ask; apologies in advance for that.

I have a rifle setup with an McMillan A6-PRS stock (no butt hook), with a 4" pic rail up front (none of the ARCA rail stuff). Bipod is one of those older atlas ones; it's not the wide stance type.

I really just need recommendations for a decent rear bag (squeeze bag I guess? I have a bunch of eared F-class heavy bags), and I assume some kind of generic front bag?

I'm not trying to gear whore it up before I go out to my first match. Just want the basics. Cost isn't a huge concern, but I'm not looking for a bag made of shaman blessed zebra skin either. Just a "jack of all trades" type setup that can let me test the waters to see if I even like shooting PRS.

Any suggestions?

Edit: I've searched for answers on other forums. I get the impression rules have changed in recent years, so maybe the recommendations have changed over time?

I'm in Round Rock. Planning to shoot some monthly matches at Navasota and Burnet.

I posted over on Snipers Hide and it seems like the "smedium gamechanger" with heavy fill is the winner by far. Think I'll just get that and a rear squeeze bag of some kind.

I did load dev for my rifle today, and for rounds I knew were going to be out of the node I tried shooting them off various PRS style obstacle/positions. It became pretty clear the type of bag I use isn't going to hold me back lol.

PM’ing you, I’m down the street ;)

The medium sized bags are the best single bag to have. Wiebad Mini FC, AG Shmedium, & SAP Solo Sack are 3 good options. I run a pint sized Gamechanger because it is what I mistakenly bought, thinking it was a Shmedium (no tag or otherwise to indicate...) I wouldn’t worry too much about the full weight, many of the lighter fills are just as stable.

Most local matches, guys will let you try just about anything they have. Take sparing advantage of the hospitality to try some different gear before making a decision.

Went with a smedium game changer, and also picked up a tank trap bracket to build an obstacle.

Debating on an ARCA rail system, but I'll probably just shoot my first match as is.

Appreciate the help gents!

Honestly the ARCA is cool and super versatile, but the main benefit is with a Tripod. If you don’t plan to get that deep into the PRS weeds, don’t worry too much about ARCA. Your bipod will be on or off, and you’ll end up using your bag when the bipod can’t be used. And a good pic rail clamp is way faster than the “unscrew and slide” for ARCA if ditching a bipod mid stage... way faster.
