Barreled action clamped to a bench

I have had several customers use a lead sled to sight in their rifles. Many of the higher recoil calibers have destroyed their scopes. I have seen $1000 scopes shaken apart. The action works just like a bullet puller works. It is the same reason a rifle scope cannot be used on an air rifle or crossbow. The recoil is different. I hope this helps.

Hoosier-- I agree with the lead-sled scenario but where do you get that you can't put a scope on an air-rifle? I have a RWS- Diana that has a Beeman Blue Ribbon SS2 that shoots just fine. Ask all the Magpies and Starlings about it. dedogs ;)

That happens to be a scope designed for an air rifle. Hoosier referenced a rifle scope. Major difference!

Back in the day it was a common thought that spring air guns trashed scopes. I don't have enough experience with air guns to say one way or another, but I used to hear it a lot.

Got it. Wasn't paying enough attention to Hoosier's post-- hence the foot in mouth maneuver. Happens a lot on this site (and not just to me) :P :P

It would be an all day event. By the way I talked some of the smarter ones out of it.

Some one on here mentioned once that a fella at a range in Virginia had his wife hold onto the barrel with both hands to keep it from recoiling. They got kicked off the range. Oh the things women will do when in love ::)

Sorry my post was mis-understood. I should have been more specific between a riflescope and a air riflescope.

Both Vortex and Leupold have in the past claimed their scopes are OK to use on springers. Warantee is unlimited??

I remember a long range shooter , coming in my uncles gunshop with his 1000 yard rifle mounted in a railroad tie . It did have 2 wheels on the back , no need for a hand truck .
I never saw him shoot and we did shoot at Williamsport .

Im sure he thought it was a great idea

I've put a 300 mag in a homemade sled. It shot fine with no problems......
Thing is it's gonna move some. Getting back on target would be a problem. I don't think 100% secure is possible.
