Barrel ?

I know that different barrel companies get there blanks from a few
steel makers and have different proprietary blends.
We are not talking about specific companies or cut rifled or button.

Do you find that a longer lasting barrel is more or less accurate?
Or never seen a rhyme or reason to an accurate barrel?
Have you seen any trend in what make one better than another?

What ever you get FREEEEEEZE it. It will last for a long time. Just my two cents. Tommy Mc

Don't get me wrong, and not that this isn't an excellent question, because it is...but if it were this simple then you and I wouldn't have to worry about it anyways, because barrel makers would already be using or doing it. I mean, nobody wants to make a less than stellar barrel.
If some certain alloy or procedure, like some secret stress relieving method or special machine to make them on would produce nothing but barrels that have all the bullets touching at 100 yards you would have no trouble buying one because nobody would stay in business long doing it any other way.

Edit: I guess I should clarify this: I have tried it all...heat, freeze, shake, vibrate, shot blast, etc. Every alloy, every rifling profile and every contour and I can honestly say there was no stand outs. A good barrel either shoots or it don't. Looking at a pile of blanks and picking the best one is like looking at a bunch of women and trying to pick the one that is not going to run off with the next door neighbor.
One thing I do see and I see it a lot, the bore is always dead straight, but the outside will seldom run true when set up between centers. I have received very few barrels that were already contoured and as straight or true on the outside as they were on the inside. Funny thing is, some of the worst ones shot the best groups...go figure.

Every barrel is going to be different. The ultimate harmonics, based on the density of the steel used, the length, and the thickness, the accuracy and precision of the rifling dimensions, the internal finish - when these factors all come together they define a potentially very accurate barrel. Ultimately though, many other things must come into play to achieve the same point of impact.
