Question about tube guns

I'm getting together ideas for a tube gun to use for paper, steel and maybe a occasional varmint.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the barrel contour used? I'd understand if it was for a specific discipline but what about the general construction/balance of the gun.

I'm thinking about a .308/6.5x47 Lapua switch barrel, for now.

Thanks!

I have the Eliseo RTM, switch barrel .308-6.5x47 Lapua. I have Kreiger Medium Palma contour in both calibers. The contour is what you want it be as long as you make weight per discipline (s) in which you shoot.

I also run 31" barrels which add to weight. Coming from a tactical shooting background, I had (have) an adjustment period learning "follow through" with the longer barrels, especially with the heavier bullets in the .308 at longer ranges.

Good luck and have fun.

I put together an Eliseo R5 in 6BR, followed by a RTS in 6.5x47 a year later. Used sendero contour bbls at 28" on both, which turned out to be a bit heavy in offhand for my tastes. Not sure whether I'd have been better off with light or medium Palma contour bbls of the same length, but I would've liked the total weight about half a pound lighter for offhand only. Both rifles were very comfortable in sitting/prone rapids, as well as slow prone.

I have two of Eliseo tube guns. A .308 and a 6mm. I bought two because I thought that switching barrels would be difficult. Now I know better.
The tube guns are extremely versatile chassis that you can use for all kinds of purposes. From XTC to F-class to Benchrest and hunting.

The contour, length and caliber of the barrel is what determines the application. F-class shooters generally prefer long and heavy barrels, the XTC, tactical and hunters generally go for shorter and lighter contours. I believe the .473 bolt face will work for both.

Regards,

Joe

I have an Eliseo tube gun in 308 and I love the ergonomics of it. Can be a little more finicky for load tuning but I have found that with alloy stocks in general. Keep your load/jump increments small and happiness will follow.

They are great platforms, versatile and comfortable. They are deserving of a good barrel and action combo as they are capable of very fine accuracy.
