Barrel vise

Sometimes they spon off nice and friendly. I did. Factory 700 recently. Warmed up my jaw for all the cussing about to happen and it spun right off. Id guess 150ft lbs or so. I wonder how many guys are tightening the action vise to tightly and making it harder on themselves?
Can hacksaw a relief right up close to the barrel shoulder as well

Before you do anything follish consider this: there is a lot of folklore on the internet about the torque needed to take off a factory Remington barrel. Some are tough; some are not. A smith will put a stubborn barrel in the lathe after removing the stock and he will relieve the strain of the shoulder on the barrel to the face of the receiver. He will not part off any deeper than he has to and that is generally no deeper than the threads. A rear entry wrench is the only way to go because it doesn't torque the action. All the pressure is immediately back of the barrel. A proper rear entry action wrench and barrel vise will get that barrel off.

For removing factory Remington barrels the Brownells vice and wrench is hard to beat.

I have personally bent every brand of rear entry action wrench in the past.

The Brownell wrench WILL make the job easy

Well, if you've bent very brand of rear entry wrench, you're doing something wrong.

I just did a new r700, the action was rusted to the barrel. I did read this happening to others, should have soaked it in pb blaster. I used the wheeler #2 wrench.

Have done numerous barrels (Savage and Rem.) with the Wheeler Barrel Vise and the NSS Action wrench.
Both pieces are of very high quality.
Like others have said some are easy peezy to do others are a pita tight but, they all come off.

Anyone near the Pittsburgh Pa area have a barrel vise and a Rem action wrench willing to spin a factory barrel off for me? I throw you a couple bucks for your time. Pm me if you do or know some who does

sometimes my gunsmith will apply some heat because they had red Loctite on the threads.

If you want to remove a remington barrel there is no better vise available than the one from great scott shooters.

Uthink (AKA FBike, FBecigneul etc) is Francis Becigneul, a Guiding Light in the BR shooting sports. His son Paul makes some great products including one of the best rear entry action wrenches on the market. Maybe THE best.

Not ONCE did I mention his product (I don't do that)

And not ONCE did I indicate dissatisfaction with the product (I don't gener'ly do that either)

Nor did I ever indicate dissatisfaction privately nor pursue a "warranty" (I don't do THAT often either....)

Nor am I interested in arguing the point here in public with Uthink (BTDT, don't do that anymore most of all!)

But I will absolutely stand by my opinion that NO REAR ACTION WRENCH CAN POSSIBLY BE COMPARED to a proper outside action wrench. They're apples and oranges. NOT even in the same league. Comparing an rear entry system to a wrap-around is like comparing a skidsteer to a D8 Cat,

Yeahh they'll both move dirt.

And for those who're made happy with either, LIFE IS GOOD.

But for those needing to move big dirt, I got Good News fer ya' There Is A Bigger Way!
