barrel to scope heat shield?

I've seen many different approaches to this problem. I've seen homemade tubes that extend out the bell of the scope. I've seen the window shade method stuck on with Velcro tabs to the barrel, and I've seen a strip of elastic type material with hair ties going around the barrel. Which do you guys use the most and have you seen any impacts on accuracy using either or barrel harmonic issues as a result of the two other methods mentioned. I'm just hoping to learn something from some of you more experienced folks. I like to learn from others to avoid wasting time/money. Any input will be valuable, thanks.

I would not use a scope tube extension because of muzzle blast. I use Velcro and vinyl siding and see no difference in accuracy because of the Velcro or shield. It does cut down on the mirage off of barrel. Matt

Some also use an old target cut to size and tape it to the scope bell and near the muzzle of the barrel. It weighs less but works. I use the Venetian blind approach.

Remember, whatever you use, is weight to your gun. Paper target cut about 2 1/2" wide, couple tabs of blue tape, and you have as good as the fancy stuff. Ever try to get that Velcro adhesive off?

Comes off easy with alcohol or brake clean. When I shot seven sighters and then dump 10 records down my light gun in 40 seconds. The barrel is so hot I don't think tape will stick. Even the Velcro glue gets soft. Now this is a WSM and it is hot. Matt

It comes off but not easy, especially if it's been on for a while. Brake Kleen will ruin a stock finish.

Never had a problem with tape.

I use the venetian blind and velcro. the velcro get gluey but stays put. What ever method you use keep it the same so the harmonics stay the same.
