Barrel Swap with Scope Mounted?

I generally don't change barrels that often and have always taken the scope off as a precaution. Tomorrow I'm planning on testing 3 different barrels on the same receiver and stock. Would it be safe to just leave the scope mounted during the swap?

I use a bit of never seize on the threads and torque to 80 lb-ft. Appreciate your opinion.

I assume you're using a rear-entry wrench into the bolt raceway/locking lugs...
I don't see any reason that the scope would need to be removed, it's not "in the way" like it would be with an "around the receiver" type action wrench.

Three answers------nothing firm.

I've been concerned that bumping while breaking the barrel loose
or when tightening the barrel could possibly harm the scope.

Another concern is that the fat breech end of the barrel might not
clear the scope bell when sliding the barrel forward in the barrel
channel.

I've noticed that if all barrels were "throat and muzzle" indicated,
each barrel's POI will be reasonably close to the previous barrel.
This has held true for me, even if the scope is removed and replaced.

Good things happen when you "two point" indicate and taper bore.

On my stuff with multiple barrels, I make a witness mark on the action. Once a barrel is torqued, I make another witness mark on the shank. The next time they're swapped, it's as easy as lining up the marks...no torque wrench needed. -Al
Gonna give that a try for sure!
