Barrel Set Back

Thinking of having barrel set back and re-chambered, due to chasing throat, erosion). Should the crown be touched up also?
Any pros or cons on doing this?
Thanks.

Hi i would re crown first and try the berrel again without a set back sometimes that is all that is needed to restore accuracy if the recrown dosent help then have the barrel set back but the mussle end is the most important end of the barrel as it is the last thing that can affect accuracy that you have control off.

How many rounds are thru it?

setting back after a lot of rounds may not get you a good throat -- seems you have a window of time to setback, but past that you may be losing too much barrel to get a new throat.

also the worse the throat is, the harder it is on the reamer

definately hit the crown -- 1/4" maybe.

As of yesterday I have 871 rounds. When chamber,6-284)was new
Stoney Point OAL w/Sierra 107 MKs was 3.430, it is at 3.475 now
,0.045)from new. Using H4350x it is still shooting in .3s' at 200 yds. So accuracy is still pretty good, for me)but for how much longer,???) Will be shooting match with about 145 rounds in a couple weeks.

If it is doing that good, i'd ride it out,and am doing so right now) my last group last year from my 6.5-284 was 1.350 at 500M at 600rounds -- was going to setback, but thought i'd let it alone :thumb:

You are at the right spot to decide though.

A rechamber and crown at around 1500 rds is a good plan. Any longer and it is not worth the effort, except perhaps if you are entering an important match and have no time to work up loads for a new barrel. Ten.
