Barrel Selection Advice Sought

I'm putting together a 260 Remington on a Rem Short Action. Trying to choose between 8tw and 8.5tw as well as 29" and 31". I'm looking a the 1.250" straight contour or is that too heavy for a remington action? This is for 500 - 1000 yard shooting. I will also be shooting a muzzle brake.
Thanks for your help.

Buy the 31 inch barrel blank in an 8 twist and I would advise possibly a Heavy Varmint profile. The 8 twist will stabilize bullets all the way up to 142 grains and the extra barrel length will not hurt, after chambering/crowning you may end up with around a 29 inch barrel anyway.

A 1.250 straight is a bit much to hang off a Rem. I had a 6.5x284 straight 30" tube that wouldn't shoot until I installed a barrel block and floated the action. The other issue is the rifle would not be "balanced" unless you put a couple of pounds in the butt stock. A nose heavy gun is tough to shoot consistently.

I've tried it , 700 short or clone , 30 inch light varmint or palma taper is max . Any more is too much weight hanging at the end of that action without a barrel block .
