Barrel life 800-1100 rounds!

I have no idea, wasn't there when it happened and didn't see it after it happened. As the league manager I have to trust and accept that it did happen to explain the reason for a rifle change mid-season. I do know the rifle he will be finishing with is not the one he wants to shoot.
A rifle barrel is worn and eroded by the flame of the gunpowder and stress cracks and fire cracking occur occurs if a piece of this barrel material crumbles and breaks loose the bullet can scoot it right down the barrel and cause gouging and grooving in the barrel,,, that is when you see the sparks flying out of the barrel like fireworks,,, I've seen this happen to several barrels that I have shot way past what their normal lifespan would be...... I will try to scope that worn out barrel that I mentioned in an earlier post here (208) and show pictures of the extreme erosion.... This was a barrel that I would never take to a match what would be used for varmint shooting here on the farm.....this was a bbl. that no one would consider using but just seeing what it would do and how long it long it would still stabilize/spin the bullets,,,,.roger
