I really enjoyed that book and learned a few things too.I'm still chuckling at all this talk about barrel life.
My 20VT just passed the 5k round count from the rat patch last season and is still shooting in the .2" range, which is well into "minute of rat".
It's all about the right tool for the job. Unless one is either wealthy or just don't give a hoot, leave that 22-250 at home if you intend to blast away at pd's or squirrels all weekend and have a "new barrel fund" at home.
During a rat shoot some years ago here, friend Steve Hanson, the author of A Varmint Hunter's Odyssey brought a fellow along who had a beautiful full custom 22-250 and proceeded blasting away at the sage rats with wanton abandon. By mid-morning of the 2nd day, he couldn't hit chit, and a peek down the barrel revealed what could be described as the inside of a sewer pipe, devoid of rifling in the first 12" inches.![]()
