Barrel Groove ?

Im ordering a pacnor barrel 25" 1-8 twist but what grove 3 or 4 its going to be a 6mm br norma

My vote's for a three-groove. I couldn't be happier with mine. It's very accurate, cleans up real easy, and shows better than average velocity compared to other premium hand-lapped barrels. I'll add that the bore is relatively "tight" compared to other bbl brands. That seems to be a common characteristic for PacNors, and seems to be a "plus" for accuracy.

Now don`t go telling everyone how good the PAC-Nor barrels are I have an order in for 3 and don`t want them held up too much.

Interesting to hear someone say "Seems that tighter bores have a lot to do with improved accuracy". In this month's Precision Shooting Mag James Mock has a fine interview with John Krieger. Krieger recommends the .237 bore over the .236 bore, in their 6mm barrels.

Tight bore vs. standard bore size. The more uniform the bore and groove sizes and also very critical is the uniformity of the twist. The better these are the more forgiving the barrel is going to be. We don't see a difference in accuracy between the two. Some barrel makers like a tighter bore because the lands do the driving of the bullet not the groove. A good example. Tom Dickson of Bat Machine shot our barrel on his LV gun at the Supershoot 2006. On page 54 of this months Precision Shooting it lists a Lilja. That is incorrect. Tom called me from the Supershoot and told me how well he was shooting and was excited. The barrel was a .236 bore. Also in early July he shot one of our unlimited barrels at a match and one of his agg's at 200yds. was a .198. He won the 200yd. portion of the match. Again it was a .236 bore. You can write a book on this stuff and it's all very interesting and I can get into more here if I had the time.

As a side note. I want to thank Tom Dickson publically. He's the only guy I know that shot one of our barrels at the Supershoot. As we just started shipping barrels on a regular basis shortly prior to the shoot we didn't have alot of them out there yet. I'd like to Thank him for believing in us and being one of the first for trying our barrels and giving us a chance. Frank and Tracy at Bartlein Barrels Inc.
