Barrel for 30BR

Thanks! Seems like a fun cult following for this little guy.

Is there a particular brand of brass that is preferred? Lapua I assume?

Is a 30BR reamer something the big guys are going to have a print for? I understand zero freebore is the norm?

Redding makes 30BR dies - Are these good to go?
The Redding dies are good - so long as the chamber reamer cuts a big enough web-diameter @ .200" DATUM.

L.E. Wilson is now making excellent threaded FL/NK bushing dies, dies, and there is the reliable
Harrell's Precision option.

Harrell's make a variety of body diameters, which correspond to correct shoulder bump (head-space) - AND, if you don't achieve the desired case:chamber "fit", I believe that they will still exchange for a better fit - the fit usually related to the 'dreaded click' (difficult primary extraction) caused by too tight/close a fit between the virgin brass, chamber, and die-cavity diameters.

That said, my original die was a Redding [7mmBR] Type 'S' FL/NK bushing die, on which, using a carbide chucking reamer, I opened the neck:bushing port so that the .30 Cal. necks would pass through without being sized/touched. I got lucky: with my original reamer (.200" DATUM Spec. Dia. 0.4707") and brass, that die has been a perfect fit. Out of curiousity, I recently purchased a L.E. Wilson, and am very pleased with it.

In hind sight, going with a minimum [of at least] 0.472" Dia., @.200" ahead of the bolt-face is a more desirable option. RG

I own 3 different 30BR reamers. One is a true Robinette reamer and the other 2 are totally different and all the barrels chambered with all the 3 different reamers all shoot very well. No difference. It's the person behind the trigger who knows how to tune a rifle, read wind flags and pull the trigger at the right time that counts not the reamer specs.

Is it correct that you incorporated this change into your new reamer specs?
Yes.
Here is a print of the JGS 30RobinettV2 - salient features:
1) 1.510" max OAL (-0/+0.005"); same as original
2) web diameter (0.200" ahead of bolt-face): 0.472" (-0/+0.0005")
3) 0.331" neck Dia. (-0/+0.0005")
4) 1-45-0 throat angle (1.75 deg) (+/- 15 Min.); same as original

I don't understand why having a name attached is improtant - reluctantly, I granted permission for JGS [to use my name], because they assured me that ANY dimensional alteration will remove my name.

As I have experssed many times: altering dimensions may make for a better, or, worse reamer - however it ain't the SAME, therefore, it is [and should be called] something else! o_O ;)
Good shootin'! RG

My experience with an 18 T barrel here in cold weather is that it’s marginally stabilizing bullets even those on .925 jackets. I have settled on 17 T. In a warm climate it may work fine.
