Now why would I want to do that? If you threw in a free goat or Alpaca I might consider it Cline.Buy you a 17 twist Brux and never look back. I personally have been using them exclusively since 2016.
NO DOUBT about that Pag! You love those farm animals. Now why would I want to do that? If you threw in a free goat or Alpaca I might consider it Cline.
Sounds like yall both are fairly fond of them.NO DOUBT about that Pag! You love those farm animals.
Why do you think he stays at the range at night? He sneaks down the road in the dark to visit them Roger! If you guys want I'll hook you up with the sheep farmer 5 minutes up the road from BC.
Dusty why do you think Cline runs the Orangeburg Range when he lives 2&1/2 hours away, WHY because of the Alpaca Farm right across from Mid Carolina. He's got total access to them day and night. I caught him over there quite a few times. I had to plead with the owner not to call the cops on him more than once.Sounds like yall both are fairly fond of them.
Oh they already are too familiar. If you guys want I'll hook you up with the sheep farmer 5 minutes up the road from BC.
I talked with Anthony today. he isn't completely set up yet. The new building was more work than he thought.Hopefully we'll be seeing ABC barrels again soon. He makes an excellent barrel and offers what might be the ideal twist rate for the small 30's and light bullets, a 17.5 twist. Personally, with the great quality of today's bullets and jackets, I think the notion of twisting as slow as you can get by with is old school and unnecessary. I've been running 12 twist 6mm bbls for a few years now. If there's any down side, I simply can't shoot the difference. Won a Nat's shooting 68's in a 12 twist...but that'll never work.![]()
My first two 30 BR barrels years ago were 14 twist and I can tell you emphatically I can sure tell the difference in impulse and bag torquing between the two. 17 twist works in my climate well when I do my part.Hopefully we'll be seeing ABC barrels again soon. I won't disagree with you regarding torque but I don't notice it with the lighter 6mm bullets in a 12 vs a 13.5 or 14 twist. But yes, with the 30's, with the bullet weight, mass and the additional difference in twist that you mention, I agree that it does make a noticeable difference, especially so in lighter guns and narrower forearms, like hunter class rifles, for example. But, we're talking twice the bullet mass and near double the difference in twist rate from my 6mm example, too. I don't use an 8 twist or anything like that for light 6mm bullets either, so the difference in my case is just twist rate of a13.5 or so to a 12. Something that gets overlooked in this conversation is the slight bc advantage of a better stabilized bullet too. We're splitting a pretty fine hair there and I don't hang my hat solely on that at a short range match, for sure. Just saying that any small down side may be offset by that small gain. Your point is a good one. Mike, I firmly believe that many of what are commonly thought to be 'tune' issues are actually stability issues that haven't yet manifested themselves 'on target'.Personally, with the great quality of today's bullets and jackets, I think the notion of twisting as slow as you can get by with is old school and unnecessary.![]()
I've seen similar at distance where a bullet shot great out to 300 but was tumbling at 600.Mike, I firmly believe that many of what are commonly thought to be 'tune' issues are actually stability issues that haven't yet manifested themselves 'on target'.
While most people consider me a .30 cal. guy, I've had more than my share of good 6PPC's over the years. With the standard 14 twist/.825 jacket combo, the 'tune up' problems that I could never get a handle on suddenly went away when I went to the .790 jackets.
A very well known bullet maker told me that the move to the 13.5 twist/.825 jackets is just"....a half step in the right direction".
Duckin' the bricks being hurled my way......
Good shootin' -Al
