Barrel Deflection

Here is my update . . . I took out some of the bedding compound and basically glued the action in. I let it sit for two days and then checked the deflection .000"! I was pretty frustrated so I thought I would just glue it in and then shoot it. I had some old ammo and shot 20 or sound rounds at 100yards yesterday. It was shooting in the 2-3's. Nothing spectacular. However, my scope was only off about an moa and the tracking was perfect. I replaced my firing pin spring with the new heavier bat spring so I think my ignition might have thrown off my tune.

I'm going to do some load development at 600yd and see if she holds. I'll report back. If it doesn't hold then I'm going to buy a new stock and send the action and stock to a professional.

I shot this ladder at 600yds. It is about the same as previous ladders before I attempted to rebed. I'm sure I'll be able to tune these loads tighter. But right now it looks like the bedding is fine.

How much frustration over these stress free measurements are caused by measurement methods error? .001-.002” deflection over 24-30” of barrel length isn’t much… doesn’t take much force anywhere to bias the readings.

None for me. My measurement method is super easy, accurate and 100% repeatable.

Picture of the tool I made. I’ve only used it with rifle vertical, and only a few times. But measurements seem to repeat very well

Nice looking unit.
When I decided that I needed one, I was in a frantic time crunch(what's new!).
I whomped one up out of a couple of maple scraps using the table saw and drill press. It's so ugly that I won't post a picture of it, but it works great, and the wooden jaws are very kind to barrel finishes.

It's also biodegradable and carbon neutral.

Thanks. Hey, I bet my pine hack is uglier…..but it worked ok too.
